Re: Intake Port Cleaning

take the intake off the car and clean it, it's not really advisable to clean the ports in the engine as it will release loose soot into the bores and can cause issues unless you have a trusted way of getting it out

Re: ECU removal

Just remove the scuttle cover, then on the drivers side you'll see the black box which encases the ECU the lid is held on by around 6-8 screws undo these (1 needs to be accessed through a hold in the windscreen scuttle panel) left the lid then undo the bracket holding the ECU and disconnect the plug...

I got the rest of the bumper fitted this afternoon. Had a bit of a fiddle swapping black plastics for the chrome ones, but got there , eventually X( http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/20170129_165100_zpsq676y6hh.jpg There are a few scuffs but nothing that won't disappear with a bit o...

Yip T2000 I stopped selling on e-bay about a year ago when they started all the "instant refunds" . Since when was 1st class next day post, even the post office will tell you no guarantee its actually a 2 day service. if you want next day they offer that at silly prices. That's the thing ...

Re: AWX - going to change the clutch and flywheel

I also use LUK. Has a higher slip torque than the Sachs iirc.. mine was LUK OEM anyways. Don't mix up two brands though. Sachs clutch PP won't fit LUK DMF and vice versa. The LUK DMF kit comes with the bolts. I also got mine from ECP who alerts adamant I needed the 240mm one. After a short argument...

Re: A climbing temp gauge on a really steep hill

You might have a slight weep on the rad or something as I had one on my 1.8T for 3&1/2 years before I replaced it, I used to lose around 1/2 litre every 4-5 months but it was fairly low mileage I was doing most of the time, personally I would change the belt & waterpump early just to be on t...

Re: A climbing temp gauge on a really steep hill

Yes I would 2nd what Karl has said I would check the waterpump follow this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-jxly2ZssM and see if you have a good flow on the expansion tank return flow at around 2000 rpm you should get a very steady flow to fill the bottle, HGF isn't unheard of on the engine b...

Re: Clutch replacement

All friction plates have springs? DO NOT go down the road off SMF flywheels on a diesel you will wreck your gearbox the DMF's job is to take the torque and the vibration out the engine when the engine is idling and on take off. I don't know your mileage but I suspect you are over 100k anyway if need...

That's what they call the tiptronic manual selector you can get flappy paddles to fit behind your steering wheel to change gear should you so wish, they are fairly easy to rig in

Re: Clunky auto box

Yeah not an easy job on an X5 just getting it level on axle stands, not that it will be my problem soon as it's getting traded in in March, I would advise anyone with an Auto to get the box serviced, oh and when asked what BMW say is life for a box they said 100k miles only! Yes same procedure as the others just so you can circulate the fluid 4 axle stands, spirit level, Infra red thermometer, pipe and fluid & filter and your good to go, takes around an hour if you use a cordless drill on the sump bolts to speed it up

It didn't get rebuilt by BMW but by a transmission specialist and yes they suggested changing the oil every 30k miles and at around £400 a time it's not cheap Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk You can do it yourself for around £90 all in all you need is a infra red thermometer and some sort of pu...

Never had an auto one. But if its a Tiptronic theyre quite well known for breakage and problems. Disagree the tiptronics ZF 5hp19 are used in a large range of cars not just VW's and they are very reliable it's the later CVC gearbox that people had problems with. The main issues with the Tiptronics ...

usually if there is water behind the drivers seat it's either the inner metal door panel seal (where the motor is connected too) this can be solved by undoing the bolts and squeezing in some silicon sealant, or it comes in via the bonnet cable grommet near the ECU box under the bonnet again loads of...
