The problem with tensioning the belt is that if the bearings on any pulley (whether the PAS pump or the alternator) are shot, you can't tell when the engine is stopped & you're tensioning. Start the engine & it makes a racket again... I would suggest loosening the belt off, and "jigglin...

Re: Help!! Rattle and squeaking at idle and when steering, T

The noise is at low revs (up to about 1200rpm) It is a clattery noise, It gets a lot worse when you steer at slow speeds and low revs e.g parking. If you apply full lock when not moving the will be a lot of vibration and squeaking under the bonnet from the near side front area. Knackered power stee...

Thinking question...

I recently traded in my Passat... it had a full VW service history when I bought it, but I did the last service myself in my 7000 miles of ownership. The car had 97,000 on it when I bought it, and 104,000 when I sold it. I saw the car for sale today, advertised as having a full main dealer service h...

Its defo for the 1.9 TDI man. Checked the axle weight for the front of mine, its 1070kg. So Weitec are saying that to achieve a 50mm drop, the weight at the front needs to be 1110kg so mines aint that far off that weight so id guess it would bring my car between 40-45mm lower then. The thing with w...

Re: Sheared rear suspension strut bolt, please help me!!

I was changing my rear springs over as I've been trying to find which springs will work best with my completely worn out struts and when putting the rear strut back one of the top bolts sheared off whilst I was torquing it up. My problem is that I have no way to remove this and I have work tomorrow...

Oooh oooh oooh... pick me... pick me... :D :D :D Right... The B5 Passat V5 was a 10V motor, and produced 150bhp, the B5.5 has a 20V head, and produces 170bhp. All chrome V5 badge on the rear means a 150bhp model, V 5 means the 170bhp 20v model! This link might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V5_e...

V5 (170bhp) mileage

You didn't ask, but I'll tell you anyhow... I get around 400 miles from a fill, which really is from "overflowing at the pumps" to "0 miles" left on the trip computer... usually 58/59 litres goes in then, meaning it's doing about 33 to the gallon - I'm pretty happy with that, con...

Another Alarm & Drain Holes thread...

I hoovered out the Passat last night, washed it too, and was just locking it up for the night when the alarm went off (was immediate on locking the car). Had a few attempts, no good. Mild panic, then logged into this site, used search, and figured something was wet! Back out to the car, scuttle pane...

They are the same length - looks can be very deceiving, but they're the same floorpan. Same towbar fits both saloon & estate too (just the 4mo floorpan is obviously different).

I have to pick up some kitchen worktop this evening... how long is the load area of the Passat (Estate) with the rear bench folded? I'm guessing the B5 & B5.5 will be the same...

Like he said. All TT wheels up to 2006 were 5 x 100, not 112.

Audi A4/6/8 offsets are better suited to the Passat, wheels from the Golf 5 or Jetta are about 10mm out.
