Removing B-pillar covers

Has anyone had any success removing the trim covers on the B-pillar without wrecking them? Mine were removed a few years back when it was painted but got rather bent in the process as it turns out they are glued on as well as the pop rivet at the bottom. I have the chance to remove a pair from a car...

Re: Full culls b3/b4

We ended up fabricating some sections when we did mine. Lots of cardboard templates!

Hadrian used to make them but I think they went out of business?

Re: Got ready to take car for MOT and it would not start!

The relay for the starter is effectively the solenoid on top of the starter motor, it energises the starter at the same time as throwing the pinion across. I don't think there's a relay in the fusebox for the starter. I'll dig out my Haynes later it has the wiring diagrams in. Didn't realise yours w...

Re: Pressed plates legal?

I think the postcode thing is only if the plates were made after a certain date- around 2007? On an old car, that's going to be pretty hard to prove.

Re: Pressed plates legal?

I've had them on the wagon for the last 5-6 years, but with normal UK font. Have had police cars right behind me, never been pulled over. It's the ones with the german font that they get funny about.

Re: B3 wagon

Love the wheels, really got a thing for multispoke/cross spoke alloys on these. Wish someone made a wheel similar to a BBS RA but in 16" and 5x100.

There were some cool wheels with a similar design on Porsche 924 turbo's but when I looked I think the offsets were too low.

Re: B3&mk3 golf repeaters the same?

Yep the rectangular ones are the same size but you need the bulb holders as well as the B3 just has spade connectors on the end of the loom rather than a plug.

Re: b3 2.0 tuning?

I reckon most would take it out and fit something with a naturally higher power. Saying that, start by making sure everything's set up as well as it can possibly be... We have a 2e in the corrado. A mate bought one with an ABF conversion which he reckoned wasn't as quick as our 8V. The 2e and ABF u...

hehe I think a 300+bhp tuned turbo engine needs to flow a bit more air than a little turbo diesel!

Re: Diesel Decat Pipe

Back pressure will be provided by the turbo- on a turboed car you want the least restrictive exhaust possible to reduce turbo lag- that's why you see imprezas etc. with great big exhausts on. You want the biggest pressure difference possible upstream and downstream of the turbo.

Re: b4 tdi into my b3 estate

I'd use the tdi clocks as the rev counter will have the red line in the wrong place otherwise. Also depends on the speedo drive on the new gearbox- electronic or mechanical. You could probably mix and match the insides if the VR6 clocks have more bits on like the MFA but depends how technical you wa...

Re: b4 tdi into my b3 estate

Sorry didn't realise the b4 was a saloon- Adam is correct the tanks won't swap, there's an extra 20 litres in a wagon tank :-) I don't think there's any difference between petrol and diesel tanks, just the round hatch bit that goes in the top of the tank is different, that bit should swap over but t...

Re: b4 tdi into my b3 estate

Swap as much of it as you can, it's easier in the long run. When I did mine (2.0 16v ABF from a b4 into a b3), I even swapped the dash loom, clocks etc. the plugs are all the same but a few nice little features like electronic speedo rather than mechanical, more wires in the stereo loom and other st...

Re: How to remove GT sill covers

There are plastic nuts underneath that go on to studs welded to the sills (this is there the rot starts). Undo these, then you have to sort of push them upwards and outwards to unclip the top edge. I think there might be a rivet or screw inside the wheelarches at the front and back to take out too. ...

Re: ignition switch replacement

My suggestions: - fuel pump - coilpack (especially if it's one of the cube shaped ones) AFAIK the only sensors that will stop one of these running if the signal is lost are the crank position sensor and coolant temperature sender, the rest are just for optimising the AFR and timing, so the engine wi...

Watched some of this, had to turn it off, was making me feel sick. The guy came across as a bit of a selfish idiot tbh. He didn't seem to care about how his death would affect his mum, who was obviously very scared for his safety, and couldn't really justify why he was doing that stuff.
