Re: A lesson in cambelts

The PD belts work out a bit cheaper than the petrol ones as you dont have a damper to change. But thats a good price.

Re: Fitting a new sub

Pretty small gauge wire, just run it along the plenum and into the ECU box and into the car in front of the wiper linkage.

Pretty sure you wont be able to. The boost is electronically controlled by the engine ECU and the wastegate isnt just controlled by vacuum.

Re: Techie, your opinion please!

The one way pulley is a fairly common issue. They seized up then undo themselves, tell tale signs of early failure are a squeaking noise when loaded (when PAS is on full lock for example). If left it usually takes out the alternator, did one this week for the same fault.

Question is is that any better than the one he has now?

Main dealer is nearer £1k so £600 odd from Euros isnt to bad.

Re: VAG COM ?

I have the full HEX CAN USB VAG COM and use it most weekends. Best £200 I ever spent. Works very well and has a fair few features that our dealer diagnostic equipment doesn't anymore.

Re: CV help - Engine code ATJ

Get the genuine part number for your car from your local dealer (they can do a car specific search) give that to Euros and they can cross referance it.

Re: Exhaust emissions warning lamp on, B5.5 1.8T.

Fairly common that one, if it pops up again check down the back of the cylinder head (if the specialist was that good he would have done this allready). The small vacuum pipe pops off the inlet for the secondary air thus creating insuffcient flow.

The EML is one light for many many faults, without reading off the fault codes its anyone guess.

Mine doesnt make a noise like that, but when going slowly you can here creaking/groaning from the front suspension when going over undulations.

When you fitted the coil overs are you sure yu got the top hat of the coil over sat properly on the top of the damper rod? If they dont go on square then the spring jumps and makes that noise.

Re: Rear disks + pads URGENT QUERY!

Yes you need a piston wind back tool to retract the piston on the B5 and 5.5.

You can pop the cap of the reservoir (not actually required as it is vented after all). Opening a bleed nipple if a good idea as if the fluid level is quite high it will stop fluid spiling out.
