Re: Replacement Battery

My understanding is that even if you replace with an identical battery, the car still needs to be told it's a new one.

Maybe it's just another great idea to have a complicated charging system so you have to go to a dealer to help keep them in business.

Re: Abs Fault

You could cut the green and black wires going to pins 6 and 7 on the abs control block and connect a working sensor directly to the control block, then see if the light still comes on. I read that the car might need to be driven a mile or two to convince the abs unit that the fault has been fixed. I...

Re: Abs Fault

The reason I first asked if the abs light came on before or after moving off was to determine if it was a wiring issue, which would be picked even when stationary, or if the fault was only picked up when moving. If only when moving I was going to suggest checking the ring.

Re: Abs Fault

Hi mate.its 2003 b5.5 and the fault code is 00283 G47 open circuit.thanks for your help. Open circuit... If you have a multimeter you could check the old abs sensor. It should have a resistance of somewhere in the region of 1,000 to 2000 ohms. If the old sensor is OK it seems the fault is in either...

Re: Abs Fault

If you clear the fault, does the fault light come on again when the car is still stationary, within a few seconds of switching on, or does it only come on when the vehicle has started to move?

Re: rear window problems

Yep, that's it. When dismantling, to remove the peg from the glass, an M5 I think (or perhaps it's an M6) bolt can be threaded into the centre of the inner nylon peg which can then be pulled out. The outer peg is then easy to remove. To refit you assemble the two nylon split pegs into the glass. Mol...

Re: Car underfloor foam

It will be difficult replicate the thick moulded foam that is stuck to the carpet. Removal and complete replacement is possible if you can find a suitable used carpet. I've had success with removing the seat, propping up the carpet and once the standing and dripping water has been removed, drying th...

Re: Control arms.

Looks like a set of bushes is more expensive than a set of arms.

I did investigate a few years ago and found replacement rubber bushes from, I think it was Febi, for the upper arms. Bought a couple just to try and fitted one to whichever of the upper arms is easiest to remove.

I've been happy with these folk...https://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ Less than £50 to cover both insured and spouse, driving any vehicle.

If you do a little internet searching you will likely come across a discount code.

....and Haynes says the electric mirror fuse is F6, 5 amp fuse, or you could take off the mirror and check for voltage at the push-on terminals at the back of the mirror glass assembly.

Re: CTS lower temperature reading

With symptoms like that I'd be checking the glowplugs first.
Each should have a resistance of something like 1 ohm.
You could put a headlight bulb in the circuit to check each one in turn.
Glow plugs don't last for ever and now is the time of year you will notice the difference.

Yes, they can stretch a bit to fit.

You mean from websites such as this https://www.balljointboots.co.uk/ Ebay has lots also.

I've used one in the past for a track rod end on a different car. It was perfectly OK.

Re: No speakers only tweeters

As far as I can remember, there are only one pair of speaker wires going in to each door. It's in the door that they go to the main speaker and the tweeter feed is taken from the pair of wires, with a capacitor in line to cut out the lower frequencies. If the tweeters work the fault should be behind...

Where is the noise coming from?
Is it from the compressor or from the servo motors that operate the temp/direction flow flaps under the dash, or perhaps somewhere else?

I'd double check that the ball joint was OK first. If it is, then use the Lemforder bush.
They wouldn't sell them if it wasn't possible to change them.
If you can't press it in yourself, a friendly garage or engineering shop might help.
