Re: amp wiring
A fairly thick cable connected to the permanently live terminal on the main bus near the fuse box will be fine. No need to go directly to the battery for a relatively modest amplifier. Run the cable under the carpet down the offside of the car and into the boot. Best to have a fuse in the new cable ...

Re: Passenger Door Mirror Glass????
A search on ebay for "passat b5.5 door mirror glass" will give lots of choice for glass, adhesive pad or the two already assembled on to the backplate.

Re: Door Seals
Are you sure it's the door seal?
There is a seal between the window regulator carrier plate and the door frame that is a well-known leaking point.
Needs the door trim panel to be removed, and silicone sealant applied around the panel.

Re: How do I stop water leaking in here?...
I did that very job at the weekend on three of my doors (I did the other one when replacing the window regulator a couple of months ago). Removed the door trim panel, wiped the bottom half of the joint with meths to clean it up, then applied a bead of sealant and smoothed it down with a finger. This...

Re: air con fan
The pressure switch won't allow the compressor clutch to engage if the refrigerant pressure on the system is too low (too little gas so not enough oil going around to lubricate the compressor) or if the pressure is too high (risk of bursting condenser or evaporator or pipes) This link details changi...

Re: air con fan

I think the fan I quoted is for an earlier Passat, something like 1995 ish, but the fan is phsically the same as for the B5 and B5.5. I...

Re: air con fan
My understanding of the fan is that it operates at slow speed all the time the A/C is on. (When the A/C is switched on there is a slight delay before the fan starts) There is a higher speed that kicks in if the A/C pressure rises, for example if stuck in traffic, or if the engine temperature gets to...

Re: Air con fan now working
Have you tried hitting it with a long metal bar. That freed up the bushes on mine (Skoda Superb 1.9) The brushes get stuck up with carbon dust and stick in their guides. A good tap or two can release them. A more permanent solution is to dismantle the motor and clean up the brush guides. You tube ha...

Re: Headlight restoration. Which product?
Hi again,
There are a few Harbor Freight stores near Boston. It's worth the trip. You can spend a lot of time wandering round and wondering how it's able to produce so much in China, transport it and sell it for so little money.

Bob.
In The US, have a look in Harbor Freight or Walmart. They usually have the 3M kit for a little less than USD20.
