Re: The Epic 6 Speed Clutch/Flywheel Guide For The TDI 45PIC
I'm some of the way through doing this on my AJT, however I am defeated. I'm by myself in a cramped garage, so access isn't great, and I'm struggling to get to some nuts and bolts: How did you remove the nut on the exhaust to turbo flange, the one closest to the block? I can hardly get a spanner on ...

Re: Colour "highlights" on a silver car?
Hmm, yes those red highlights are really noticeable... I definitely agree a dark colour will be better, looking at this other thread I might paint all the black bumper and skirts silver, then the blue highlights wouldn't look too much? Maybe blue wheels too? I've got time to decide yet, it'll be a f...

Re: disconnecting battery
Take off the positive (RED), leave the negative on. Though you can take both off then touch them together to completely drain the circuit of power. But make sure you take the Positive (red) off first, then the Negative (black) ?!? surely remove the -ve first unless you have a fancy for sparks... Ah...

Re: Vag com help
I have looked into this just recently, I think most of them use an older version of the software and are somehow blocked from using the most recent one, as a lot state "do not update or it won't work". I have bought a copy yesterday as it happens, it's supposed to be the full version. I'll...

Re: Help with probable clutch issue
Good point about the pressure plate, for some reason I was focusing on the actuator, but it does sound like it could be the problem. The little service history I have (last 40k miles or so) indicate the car has been looked after and serviced as per the book, to some extent. What is the usual service...

Re: Help with probable clutch issue
Thanks Mindriot, I haven't got round to checking which gearbox it is but I'll find out today. This problem has evolved however, the clutch is now slipping. thankfully it's not as bad as the last time I had a clutch failure, which left me stranded on the motorway with no hard shoulder... Anyway the c...

OK, it's definitely an ATJ (it says so on the cambelt cover
)
Well at least I've gained 5 bhp already!

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
I've changed clutches before, just not on a longitudinal engine... also, as per my other thread, it turns out my engine is an AJT. Do I need to worry about the DMF (from what I read I assume it has a DMF)?
I've got a few bits on order already and hopefully will get all that done next weekend...

Re: Where can I check what engine I have?
Thanks Adam, the label in the boot confirms AJT, and it looks more like the top picture, although a lot of the covers might be missing. I guess that changes a few things then!

Re: Where can I check what engine I have?
In the boot wheel well you should find a VW manufacture label with all the options, engine code, paint type etc. printed on it. This of course is what was fitted to the car at manufacture, so if someone did an engine swap ........ That was my worry, I will check that shortly and confirm. Adam, it's...

Where can I check what engine I have?
Hey all,
Where can I find out which engine code I have? The reason I ask is I have invoices for previous services that mention it is an AFN, however when looking for a clutch kit this morning my reg brings up parts for an ATJ?

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
£500! I'll get the parts in and fit it myself hopefully, I've not read up on that fully yet... While I'm at it I'll give it a good service and check the other possible faults too.

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
The issue isn't lack of power though, it's complete lack of any throttle! Once I'd pulled over I tried to rev it in neutral and nothing happened...Mindriot wrote:Could be turbo etc getting a bit old and youre just falling off the top end of the power band earlier.

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
Thanks for that info, I'll get that checked out asap. The plot thickens though, it happened again this morning (again as I was going for an overtake!) but this time I lost all throttle response. The engine was still running OK, I had the flashing glow plug light an the Engine Workshop message. Once ...

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
I checked it with VAGCOM a couple of days ago, there were no fault codes stored for the throttle position, would this not get stored? If not I'll have to have another go. I wanted to get myself a copy anyway, looks like this may be a good opportunity!

Re: Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
No lights on the dash, and the problem stop as soon as I back off a little, say to about 80% throttle. Am I right in thinking it would stay in limp mode until I switch the ignition off at least?

Colour "highlights" on a silver car?
Hey all, I fancy adding a little colour to my B5 Estate, just a little touch here and there to brighten it up. I want to use a nice shade of blue, and colour things like badges (maybe), grille surround, then some bits inside. My main worry is that it will end up looking quite rubbish on a silver car...

Re: does she stay or does she go
There can't be that much left that could need replacing, you're not going to get your money back on it and the next one could need all that work too. In my opinion, unless you can't afford the repair or it would cost more than the car is worth, you're better off keeping it...

Flat spot on full throttle 1.9TDI AFN
Hey all, My car has a bit of a flat spot when accelerating hard, typically when I floor it for an overtake. It happens in any gear as far as I can tell, at about 2.5-3k rpm. It feels like there is no throttle applied, until I back off a little and it feels smooth again. Are there any usual suspects ...

Re: Help with probable clutch issue
Thanks guys. I was thinking of changing the gear oil for peace of mind, is there any way to tell if the actuator needs bleeding or is getting worn out? Also, it the actuator mounted outside the gearbox casing, or do I need to take the gearbox off? Lastly, does the gearbox need to come off the engine...

Help with probable clutch issue
Hi all, 6 days into Passat ownership and I run into trouble! I'm hoping this is common and easy to diagnose. 1.9TDI (AFN), 220k miles, manual box. The car drives fine when cold, the gearchange and clutch are smooth. I noticed the gearchange becomes a little stiffer and "crunchy" after 10-2...

New guy in North Yorshire
Hi all, Just got myself a B5 Passat 1.9Tdi, I've got plans for it (wheels, suspension, engine, ICE...) although nothing is set in stone yet... I'm a life long VW fan (I think I got it from my parents), I've had a few but this is my first Passat. It's got a couple of issues I want to look at so I hav...
