Washer jets

Hi all, Drivers side washer stopped working on my passat, lifted the bonnet and unclipped it and the hose had become detached inside the bonnet (god only knows how!) Presumably theres a tube running across the bonnet which the small hoses for each jet connect into? Can't see how to re-connect as it'...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

My mechanic said the engine's designed to starve the top end first so that you don't knacker the bottom end. That is why you get the tappetty noise. 4a4 - Drop the sump (bear in mind you have to drop the front subframe to do this!!) clean out the sump, oil pickup, feed pipe and oil pump then refit a...

Re: My Friggin' central locking issue.

Alright mate, Speaking from experience get it sorted before you can't open it at all. I left my drivers side rear locking mechanism so long that eventually it wouldn't open at all. My garage had the unenviable task of getting the door card off with the door closed!! The lock mechanism's cost about Â...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

Right a quick update on my motor. I had a STOP low oil pressure warning come up a couple of weeks ago. It's been into the garage and i've now got it back all sorted. He basically stripped down the oil system, removed sump, oil pickup and oil pump, good clean out, new oil and filter and it's fine. 4 ...

Re: B5.5 Sport Climate Control Problem

Right here's a quick update on my climate control problem. Took it into my garage last week for some fault-finding. He checked the system, everything fine and working when tested. He then traced the wiring for the system and came to a clump of corroded wiring in the passenger footwell (common proble...

Re: Secondary air flow incorrect flow detected

Hello mate, I've just read your post with interest. A few months ago i had the engine management light come on ('02 Passat 1.8T) The car drove totally fine, no limp mode or anything. I took it into my usual garage who put it on the diagnostic's and it came up with the same fault, Secondary Air injec...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

I will let you know what happens. Should have it back tomorrow at the latest. I've told him to inspect the oil pump and advise whether or not to replace it, I think they're only £80 or so. Are you still driving yours like that? Sounds like your oil pump feed pipe or mesh is partially blocked which ...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

Took my car into the garage this morning to get it looked at, got about half way and the engine was very tappety so I pulled over into a car park and got the breakdown truck to take me to the garage. My mechanic said the engine should be fine afterwards, engine's designed to starve top end first so ...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

Warning light first came on about 2 months ago on the motorway and went off straight away. Friday it came on and went off after about 5 mins then a few miles down the road came on and stayed on. Starting to get a bit p***ed off with the car now, had it since feb and it's been pretty good but recentl...

Re: 1.8T STOP low oil pressure

How weird is that, had this exact same warning come on my 1.8T Sport on friday evening. It's a common problem with the 1.8T apparently. Mine's going into the garage tomorrow morning, chap says it's probably the oil pump clogged up. He's going to take the oil pump off and inspect it for me, as long a...

Would anything show up on Diagnostics if the compressor was shot? I've had it on diagnostics recently and nothing showed up.

B5.5 Sport Climate Control Problem

As above, the cc has stopped blowing cool air. All of the fan speed, direction functionailty is still there. Took it in to have it re-gassed (490 taken out 600 put back) and they are saying the compressor's not kicking in. Any ideas what this might be, i'm prepared for the worst but any help would b...

Re: new tax?

I presume you know the motorbike test is changing this year? Not necessarily harder but less test centres, longer waiting times and ultimately probably more expensive. I'd get it done this year before October if at all possible, see this: http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Category.asp?cat=405" onclick=&quo...

Re: MPG..What ya guys get ..

Is that in a 1.8T???

The highest i've ever seen on the computer is 42 mpg and range at about 550 when i've filled up.

I take it you filled up when the computer was saying 60mpg giving you the 800 range.

Going to need to get some pictures up of that, seems a bit too good to be true.

Nah not getting rid of the passat, need to keep that for the family and when it's cold/wet/snowing :) Really impressed with the hornet, superb first bike and looks ace in my opinion. Insurance is low aswell at just £170 a year even though i've just passed my test. Very cheap to run and based on the...

Re: new tax?

It really makes no sense, would'nt by putting cars after 2001 up so much in tax be bad for the economy surely? I mean who really then is going to want to buy a new car if they know that there going to have to pay through there backsides for tax? I don't know about you but I've noticed a decline in ...

Re: new tax?

Pre March 2001 cars will stay at roughly the same as they are now for the time being. Post March 2001 cars will generally go up especially if they put out high emissions. Example: Mk4 golf V6, pre 2001 will cost you about £185 going upto probably £200 in a couple of years. Mk4 golf V6 post 2001, c...

Re: MPG..What ya guys get ..

Hiya mate, I've got an '02 1.8T sport saloon. Worst i've seen is low 20's (around town), highest i've seen 42 (long motorway journey cruise control set at 60) Average over a mixture of driving over about 2000 miles is about 33 (according to computer) I generally get 400-450 miles to a tank (£76 whe...

Re: Shell v-power vs supermarket petrol

My last car was a mk2 golf gti 16v, and it wasn't a happy bunny when run on normal unleaded. With my passat i don't really notice any benefit of running it on super so i generally fill up one tank of V-power every 3rd/4th tank for the cleaning properties. With regards the supermarket vs well-known s...

Re: 1.8T MPG..........

I will admit that to get over 40 mpg you need to drive pretty slowly. I've been doing a few long runs recently trying different speeds. 80 i usually get about 33 mpg, 70 i get 37, 60 i get 40+ easily. That's using cruise control aswell. I'm generally setting the cruise to 60/65 now, journey doesn't ...

Re: How big is your fuel tank?

The B5.5 is definitely 62 litres. Last week i got down to 0 miles on the read-out (not intentional!) and limped to the nearest petrol station. Filled her up and squeezed 61.96 litres in, bit close for comfort to be honest but the range just crashes down from 30 to 0 on the dash! Need some B5 owners ...

I thought the B5 had the same 62 litre tank as the B5.5.

Sounds like it's only got a 50 litre tank like the golf.
