Re: Warning light - what does it mean??

I think it's the ESC light. If you switch it off this light comes on to tell you its disengaged.

Same thing happened to me, light came on then when I switched off and on again it cleared.

I'm just hoping it's not a sign of things going wrong in the near future :)

Re: owners 1.8T what is your car like!

Hi mate, i've had my 1.8t for just over 2 years now, overall very pleased with it, great motorway mile muncher, enough poke from the 1.8t (easily tuneable if you want more) fuel economy is sitting at 32 average over 22000 miles, lowest you'll get is about 20 if you're caning it, most I've ever seen ...

    Re: leaking

My rear passenger side carpet is soaked.

Front is fine so i'm guessing it's coming in through either front or rear door seal.

Man this car's P*$$ing me off now!

What's best way to get carpet up as the trim that clips over top near door seal is pretty tight, don't want to break anything??

    Alright mate.

    PCD 5x112

    Cambelt every 60k

Fuel consumption varies from 27-42. My long term average over 2 years/20k is 32mpg.

    Hope that helps

    All,

    Got this sorted.

If anyone's interested it was leaking cam cover gasket.

1 hours labour and a gasket set later all sorted. £80 all in.

    Nah definitely not petrol.

I'm guessing it's a very small amount of oil due to the smell and the fact that it's not registering on the dipstick the loss.

    B5.5 1.8T burning smell

I've noticed a burning smell over the last few weeks which has been getting worse. The car's not using any oil. You can smell it when stationery but not driving along. Checked under bonnet after a long run the other day and there are deposits on the exhaust to the left of the engine as you look at i...

My 1.8T had this problem at about 80k. Driving along and the Stop Oil Pressure Message came up on the MFA. Got it to my local garage where I always go and the chap said that it's a common problem on larger cars fitted with the 1.8T (Passat/A4/A6 etc) rather than the golf's leons etc. He dropped the ...

When I pulled the blown bulb out the metal piece that fits to the bulb holder came off with it and fell down inside the bumper. Luckily when i took off the side grille it was there staring back at me phew!!

Re: Interior light not working when door open

Good news that some of you are getting it sorted. With mine i'm not so sure it's the microswitches, i've got a nasty feeling it's CCM related as i've had problems with climate control before which was linked to corroded terminals. I can see that if one door wouldn't trigger the light it would point ...

That sounds surprisingly low to me. I have a b5.5 and I always get at least 400 out of a tank, best i've got is 500. I know this has been asked before but do the b5 and b5.5 have the same size tank (62 litres) If you're doing a lot of motorway stuff you should be getting 30-35mpg easily (assuming yo...

Re: Interior light not working when door open

Seems like there's a few people with different problems here: - Interior light doesn't come on with one door open but the other 3 make it work. - None of the doors activate the light but the puddle lights work. Is it likely that this is the same problem causing both? I fall into the second category ...

    Lee,

I had a quick look in the how to but couldn't find it.

So is there a microswitch in every door i.e. all 4 need repairing/replacing?

Would this come up on diagnostics?

Did you remove the black plastic ovals? Once you've done that you can see the t pieces. On mine the hose attached to the jet had become disconnected from the t piece hidden behind the black bits. Have a look on this website for how it's set up, you have to register but it's free: http://www.vagcat.c...

All mirrors, windows and CL work.

Light doesn't come on when any door is opened.

Does that point to the relay under steering wheel as mentioned?

If so any in-car pics and part number?

Interior light not working when door open

Interior light works when you flick the switch to 1 but when it's in the "door open" position it doesn't come on when you open the door.

Any ideas, is this a convenience module issue?

Right, I've sorted my washer issue. Under the bonnet just above where the washer jets sit are two black oval covers. Re: Windscreen washer jet problem

Attached to each washer jet is a piece of hose about 15cm long with a connector on the end, where does this connect into as you can't see chuff all inside the bonnet.

There is a length of pipe inside the bonnet which presumably comes from the washer bottle.

I'm having a similar problem with mine, 1 working, 1 not, water filling up the bonnet.

Nobody seems to know how to check the piping inside the bonnet though :)
