Re: bought a high mileage passat gte - so questions

If you are using the car as a PHEV (utilising the plug in as I do, rather than just hybrid as a lot of company cars are used) doing almost all of your mileage on battery, then you probably want it charged to 100% at every opportunity as the range can be as low as 12-15 miles dependant on weather/tem...

Re: B8 Estate Boot Latch/Lock Broken

Finally got around to looking at the new unit last night. Lying in the boot, plugged it in, latched it with a screwdriver and pressed the button on the key - worked perfectly. Ended up using a hacksaw blade to cut the broken lock off the latch, which involved a lot of swearing and (luckily) only a s...

Re: B8 Estate Boot Latch/Lock Broken

@maclee thanks for your help! Useful information and in the end, a bit of crawling around in the boot yielded the answer (5TA 827 505 D) and a call to VW established that they were able to supply the unit for almost the same price as I had seen online, and more to the point, they could actually deli...

B8 Estate Boot Latch/Lock Broken

Hi guys, been a while.. Finally getting around to working out why the boot won't open on the estate and it appears the latch/lock goes faulty and then needs to be replaced (fairly common thing). Looked around and there must be 100 different parts numbers that claim to be compatible! Everything Seat,...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

They don't just start these engines, they also come on during a regen to ensure the extra fuel ignites fully so that DPF temps rise to sufficient levels. The emissions light does not normally come on for wrong voltage glow plugs afaik. Yeah, I realised that the glow plugs aren't just for starting a...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Absolutely, feel pretty pleased that it's no longer a big black brick on stilts on the driveway! Engine emissions light came up today - think I've figured out that I've managed to fit a set of 4.4v glow plugs instead of the 7v required, which is annoying.. Anyone looking for a set of 4.4v glow plugs...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Passed the MOT today. Quite a long road to recovery but hopefully it's worth it.. The wife will be happy at least, and the relative who hasn't had their practical car since July and has been driving his convertible (such hardship!)

On to the next project! Cheers again.

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

OK, so a month later and I finally have some answers! Slowness all down to me not having the time to get things done. Got a call from the engine builder who has the head - he had good and bad news. They found the problem.. The head is cracked! So, this time next week I'll have a new head ready to be...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Sorry for the slow reply - not cool when I'm the one asking for help! And thanks for the help so far; it's pointed me in the right direction to get as far as I have. Had a late one last night, finally pulling the head off. Got a few findings to share with you guys and a picture, which might help wit...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Got the turbo delivered back this week so need to get it back on the car shortly, but don't want to do that if I need to take the head off.. Read in a few places that if the oil seals are gone, the guides may well have gone too so the oil seals are a bit of a stop gap fix, what do you reckon? Then s...

Re: Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Thanks for your very helpful reply! Yes, I fitted the KMB kit with 100mm shaft, actually at the same time as I fitted the refurbished turbo - car was off the road for a little while whilst I got everything sorted with it and it made sense whilst underneath it with loads of bits out of the way (and t...

Turbo issues/cylinder oil leak

Long time no post! Hope everyone is doing well.. Grab yourself a cuppa before you start! I started writing this a few weeks back but now, armed with more information, I am hoping for a better response given what I now know! Car is a 2006/06 wagon with the 2.0TDi BKP engine. Done about 170k miles, 80...

Re: Darkside Developments

So I got a quote from Midland (same as many other, I'm sure) of £275+VAT for a replacement (presumably refurbished) turbo. Makes the DSD price of [almost twice as much] not seem too attractive now, so I guess I've answered my own question, especially as they don't offer any kind of discount or trade...

Re: Darkside Developments

Not sure a tune like that would help my aging DSG.. But for a standard manifold/turbo to go with my conservative (and mechanically sensitive) Superchips tune, I guess you get what you pay for.. If I were looking for a hybrid turbo, new manifold, front mount intercooler and big injectors, I'd probabl...

Darkside Developments

I'm in the market for a new turbo/manifold and also a cambelt kit with waterpump on my BKP engine - seems Darkside Developments can help me out and I'm sure they are good but I was wondering if there is discount available for forum members? Also, any comments regarding them or alternatives would be ...

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

Fuel filter replaced - early indications are showing a huge improvement! Old filter was pretty nasty - black like an oil filter - I wouldn't have expected quite such a dark colour.. But there we go, a quick blast up the road confirms pulling strongly in 2nd, 3rd and 4th up to 4300 rpm (ran out of ro...

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

Interestingly (back on topic) - I did the DSG reset yesterday before driving home and it is definitely driving differently already, although it was warmer yesterday than it has been for a few weeks, so it's pretty inconclusive.. I fancy doing that - where in VCDS is it? Found it here http://wiki.ro...

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

The problem with Shell is that the garage that used to be on my way to work changed from Shell to an unnamed 'local service station' and now I don't know what they sell.. I pass a Murco garage 150 meters from my house but it's always busy because it's a tiny forecourt so I never go in.. I end up in ...

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

After checking the records, it looks like it needs brake fluid too, so I checked with VW who have quoted £179 for DSG oil and filter and £59 for the brake fluid.. Might take them up on those, spend a few hours doing the fuel filter and oil + filter myself (instead of £329!) and see how it looks.....

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

Fuel filter I don't mind doing as it's cheap - should last 60K according to the schedule and it's done 34K at this point.. DSG oil and filter were 47K ago in October 2011 so 4.5 years ish - schedule says 40K miles, so I guess that's overdue! Engine oil, oil filter and air filter were done about 9 mo...

Re: Hesitation and Stuttering

I'll do the DSG reset although it feels more like a power issue rather than a transmission issue.. The turbo thing is something I've been considering, especially as it seems to be getting worse - my thoughts were that one day I'll find my engine has eaten my turbo and I'll be left at the side of the...

Hesitation and Stuttering

Quick one on my 2006 B6 2.0 TDI DSG with 138K on it.. For a few months (probably about 6, if I'm honest) I've been getting hesitation/stuttering when accelerating hard in 3rd gear at around 3500/3700rpm. It does get past it and I've only noticed it when driving hard as the DSG changes well before th...

Re: DIY Cambelt Change

Vw are doing fixed price cam belt parts and fitted for £299 or £340 with water pump. I'd love to know where to get a deal like that! The price on the board at JCB is £500 or £520 with water pump (could even be £540)! Maybe they would do £299/£340 for a little petrol engine but not for the Pa...

DIY Cambelt Change

Just a quick one for those who've looked into it - I am due a cambelt change (+ tensioner, water pump etc) as the car last had one 4.5 years ago (it's now 9 years old) but also a DSG oil service. JCB VW in Ashford have quoted around £520 for the cambelt job + £180 ish for the DSG oil service. I'm ...

Got a Golf GTI wheel in mine, cost me about £50 and 2 minutes with the Vagcom.. Came with the silver GTI badge which I flogged on eBay for £20 and I put my black one on (not a fan of false advertising). Then sold my original MFSW for £25.. Swapped the airbag over from the original to the new.. No...
