Re: egr valve
So I suppose there's an Allard Power Pipe kit up for grabs...
Can I just blank off on the pipe which goes into the manifold?

Re: egr valve
Guys, I assume this is my EGR set up. I've bought the Allard kit but it doesn't look as though it's right for my AFN engine - any thoughts? I was told by the dealer when I went in for routine service parts that as mine was one of the very first B5s it has a very unusual range of parts fitted, includ...

Re: A TDI oil change guide
Went to VW to get oil, fuel and pollen filters for my '97 110TDi and was told that the VW dealerships now exclusively use .00 oil rather than the .01 because VW had stopped producing the .01 and that it'd be fine. He also said 10W40 was the right choice. When I did find .01 in another shop, the labe...

Re: egr valve
I would get a new silicon hose to go with it, as I cut and fitted the original hose that is on the EGR valve, which worked fine till it popped off and the road behind me dissapeared in a cloud of smoke. I suppose this would also do away with the need to cut the metal out of the original pipe as wel...

Re: A TDI oil change guide
Honestly, it makes life so much easier. You can suck the oil out while you're getting on with other things - filters changes etc. You don't even need to get the car up off the ground. I know so many people (myself included) who always used to do it the "traditional" way but who are now Pe...

Re: Replacing radiator on air con 110 TDi B5
the car rad and aircon rad are 2 different things the aircon is the one at the front do not touch that one youre engine is the one inside the bay should be simple enough to access you dont need to remove the aircon one as far as im aware as long as you bleed the air out of the system as you refill ...

Thanks for that. Isn't there an accessible sump plug to undo rather than sucking oil out the top? I have an AFN 110 TDi that I'd like to service.

Replacing radiator on air con 110 TDi B5
I've got to replace the radiator on my air conditioned 110 TDi B5 estate as it's leaking. Is it a tough job? I'm confident enough about unbolting it all but is the air con unit merged in somehow? Also, I'm a bit concerned with the topping it up with fluid after as I know of too many examples where f...

Re: Passat B5 110TDi vibrations
Isn't there the option of going for a solid mass flywheel? I suspect this won't be for mine as I believe the 110TDi is an AFN? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUAL-MASS-FLYWHEEL-CONVERSION-KIT-CLUTCH-VOLKSWAGEN-VW_W0QQitemZ250299078326QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a46fcd6b6&am...

Thanks Dave, I suspect you may be right as I can feel vibrations through the clutch pedal when I rest my foot on it. Sounds expensive...dave_1 wrote:Hi
Dmf = dual mass flywheel.
Its on the back of the engine and the clutch bolts to it.

Passat B5 110TDi vibrations
Mine's on about 120k and there seems to be quite a lot more vibration than I would expect when the engine is running and the car is static. How quickly do the engine mounts go on the B5 and is there one which is generally the culprit? Anyone fitted new ones - is it a drama?

Re: air filter
A new OE filter will also give you more MPG, its OK comparing two products but for the trial to be fair they both need to be brand new. Absolutely - quite agree. But the advantage with the K&N is is that you just clean it at every service interval and you've got as good as new again - if you ha...

Re: air filter
I fitted a K&N to my Focus TDDi and the mpg improved and as did the throttle response so I'm trying it again on the Passat. Fitted it today so can't tell you if it's made any difference.

B5 estate roof rail removal
Is it possible to remove these without causing a scenario that involves a bodyshop to sort out? If it isn't a drama, does anyone know how it's done? I've got no need for them so would rather do without.
