Re: Service Indicator Reset
Thanks, but.... The issue with that, is that I don't have the reset option in my menu, hence noting this and asking how to add it via VCDS in my opening post.

Re: Service Indicator Reset
Thanks - yes I have a multi function steering wheel (well it has buttons on it!) and I've tried the procedure but it just seems to do an oil reset and not a service reset. Short video showing what happens and then the subsequent viewing of the relevant info - Service is still showing as -99 days (an...

Service Indicator Reset
Via VCDS, I've managed to reset my oil service indicator but I can't seem to reset my service indicator, so every time I start the car, I get the spanner symbol telling me I'm overdue a service (when I'm not). Looking online, it seems that I should be able to reset it via the MFD, but I don't have t...

Re: Possible to Sell on a Ross-Tech VCDS?
Totally possible to sell it on and Ross Tech is happy for you to do so, as the unit is limited by VIN registrations. There are (should be) 2 left, so a new user can make good use of it. It is possible to 'add' more VINs to it as well, by buying additional licences from Ross Tech, so is not limited i...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
The new sensor arrived today, has now been fitted, and all fault lights have gone out. All stored codes have been cleared and no re-occurrence, so all is good! Lesson learned - even if you think a pattern piece will be ok, it probably won't be, so buy genuine!

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
Something else tried today. I removed the NSR sensor to see if that caused a fault when it was not inserted - it did not, so I then swapped the original suspect sensor from the OSR for the 'good' one on the NSR. It wasn't inserted into the wheel (as it wouldn't fit due to being 'handed'), just inser...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
If I clear the fault codes, the fault re-appears pretty much straight away (1 or 2 seconds and the dash lights come back on), so I don't understand how I can clear them and see gaps in the graph.

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
I logged the OSR (faulty in VCDS) against the NSR (not showing as a fault in VCDS) so as to do a comparison. See attached spreadsheet. This was a short journey, about 1/4 mile, pausing briefly once during the trip. I'm not too worried about the 'encoder errors' as these seem to stop (or go to max if...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
Thanks, not sure what you mean - log them how or doing what? I've still got access to VCDS (15.7.1) so as long as I can do it with that, all well and good.

Re: Nitrogen v Air in tyres
Hi All What is the wisdom and concensus of replacing the air in tyres to nitrogen? How many have done so, how found stuck with or gone back? L 78% of the air is already Nitrogen, what is the extra 22% going to make? 21% of the remainder is Oxygen, so how does that differ to Nitrogen in a car tyre? ...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
Your swap over theory is a good idea but impossible as the sensors are angled differently for each side. The only thing you can rule out is wiring damage by extending one side to the other side sensor and spinning the wheels and seeing the reading now appearing against another wheel, albeit using t...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
Speaking from experience and the mileage on your car, unless it was changed recently I would put money on it being the rear wheel bearing. The hub is a sealed unit and the magnetic pickup ring is on the back of it. The problem is the inner wheel bearing wears and even though I couldn't entice any p...

Re: ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
You'll hopefully have read from my post that I've already changed the rear wheel speed sensor (part number 1K0927808) so unless I've managed to get a duff one (mine was in a sealed bag, so not 'used'), that has already been tried.

ABS (and other) lights on dashboard
A short while ago (few weeks, maybe a month or two) I had an instance where my stability control warning light came on, then shortly after (few mins / miles?) went off again. I put it down to spurious activity. Happened a couple more times and now it is on permanently with a few other lights, so I n...

Re: EGR 'thrppp' noise
Thanks, I know from previous experience that plugging my EGR valve vac pipe will not throw an EML code as I've tried it previously (ran with it for a few months). I've also just been having a play with VCDS-Lite (unregistered) and my MAF reading are within limits and no errors show when scanning, so...

Ah, I'll go hunting - in the meanwhile, it says AWX on a VW sticker on the cambelt plastic cover.
[edited to add]
Yup, log book confirms an AWX engine.

Re: Piston issue
Sounds like they've slipped out of the box then - either complain to ECP or just re-use the ones you have. If you have any 'wet and dry' give the old ones a quick (flat) rub to remove any compression makes and they should be fine.

Do you have blocked plenum drains allowing water into the cabin and wiring under the passenger seat? Big thread on here about them.

Re: EGR 'thrppp' noise
EGR opens when vacuum is being applied to actuator. Vacuum is being controlled by vacuum solenoid - n18, similar (different part number, the same function) to turbo vacuum solenoid (n75 valve). Those vacuum solenoids are controlled by ECU. Yup, happy with all of that and firmly as expected. But if ...

Noise recorded -starts about 6 seconds in (excuse the noisy diesel!!)

How would the EGR vacuum solenoid be causing this? and where would I find it, what does it look like, do you have a part number please?
