Re: Long term storage

Cheers for the replies! Some interesting points there thanks. Although the cabin doesn't leak, last time I left her stood the battery ended up in 2 inches of water, I've now cleared the drains but I might still cover just to prevent water flowing down through the plenum and engine bay. As for the fu...

Long term storage

Hi all, Thinking about going away for around 6 months through this summer and next winter, car isn't worth much to a buyer but has had some money put into the mechanicals which means it's too good for the scrap heap. Plus why get rid of a useable car, even if it's clocked over 200k. I've not got a g...

Re: B5.5 Boring and on a Budget!

Have you tried Audi mats? I've got some A4 rubber ones in mine that fit well. Might be equivalent but just rebranded ones with locators on if you're not fussed about having Audi written on it, I think the foot wells were the same

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

So as an indoor mini project whilst the weather in Sheffield is Baltic, I've started making Betty some window blinds. I've slept in the back of the car before, with the back seats fully down you can get a double air bed between the arches and kip in some comfort. During the spring and summer if I he...

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

Bought a new front passenger side wing in the same colour from a srappers. But not sure how much work is involved in installation, can't be more than a few bolts surely? Going to leave the old rusty one on (can now put my finger through it) until the weather improves, as a sacrificial part. Then rep...

Exactly what had happened, screw was bar tight but lens was just hanging on. Resettled it but it'll need renewing, especially with Sheffield winter

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

One of the rear number plate lights wasn't working, and it was irritating me to look at, so while the glue was setting on my bodged dipstick tube I popped it out to have a look. First off it was loose, which had allowed water in and corroded the contacts. Replaced the bulb, squeezed the contacts tog...

Great looking car, they look good in black. Chuck a picture up when you get the new wheels on

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

Re the temp... In the cold weather mine doesn't reach the 90 even In traffic due to the ambient temperature being low. Hmm, what worried me is when driving to newcastle the temp went from 80ish to around 70 mid way up the motorway. Never noticed for the first few thousand miles because it was summe...

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

Few more pics of recent updates: Ronals put on a month or so ago, arrived with tyres that had legal tread but found that in the wet it handled like a shopping trolley on ice. Got those changed the next day. Went from this: http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161227/a735f20aae764bb512d51ad907109842.jpg...

Should I get 19" AUDI RS6 alloys?

Standard suspension set up b5.5 on 18 inch Audi Ronals, ride has improved if anything. Less crashy through pot holes because of bigger diameter wheels and still soaks up speedbumps. Also corners flatter than it did, shallower sidewalls I guess contribute to that. Can't speak for your lowered car but...

Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

Not been on here in a while, final year uni work has taken up some time. Found some spare hours to do a few odd bits to the old girl though. I plastidip smoked my rear lights, and immediately regretted this decision as the brand new units just looked old and sun damaged, rather than darkened. Had to...

Re: Anyone ever slept/camped in Passat Estate?

Double air bed fits nicely between the arches in my b5.5 estate with the rear seats fully down. Slept in it in September and got a touch chilly but nothing horrendous. Woke up early to sun streaming in though, didn't cross my mind as I'd gone to sleep in the dark. Quick trip to the supermarket and m...

Re: Black Betty the euro tripper B5.5

The Bic (well recognised) was used as a paddle board on this trip, sacrilege for windsurfers I would imagine, but I'm more of a dinghy sailor so I thought I'd save any embarrassment. Based in Sheffield for uni so I sail up in the peaks at Winscar. Did a few jobs to the wagon today, as always on old ...
