G85 sensor in steering wheel on mk4 golf

hi guys, mate asked me to scan his Golf mk 4 tdi after he had his ESP light come up and stay on. did a scan with VCDS and it came up with 0078 steering wheel senor G85 - mechanical failure.
so i take it it needs a new one replacing???
