Beetle questions

Hi guys
My girlfriend really wants a VW beetle and can spend up to around £3500 with her part ex (peugeot 206).
Looking at a 1.6 petrol or 1.9tdi 100bhp on a 2003-2004 plate, any advice anyone can give on these?
