Wing mirrors not lowering when reversing?

I took delivery of a Passat SEL in March. I'm very happy with it.
One thing I've noticed is that the wing mirrors don't lower when I select reverse gear (it's an automatic). In the settings there's a "Lower mirrors when reversing" setting, which is ticked. I've tried unsetting this and setting it again, no effect.
I don't recall if the mirrors did lower before and it's stopped working.
I know this is a "mention it at the first service" thing but I wondered if anyone has any suggestions to get it working.
