Passat 2002 TDI 130bhp Sport 62.4 mpg!!

I was very pleased to hit 62.4 mpg on a long run yesterday from London up to Merseyside via Ludlow on A roads etc.
The best I've achieved in the past with my 2002 TDI 130bhp sport has been around 50mpg.

How accurate is the mpg gauge on the dash?

I,ve done almost 600miles on £80 of Shells finest diesel.The tank wasn't full,and I still don't need to fill up just yet.
My old V reg 1.8T 150bhp Passat petrol estate couldn't seem to return more than 400 miles on a full tank,but was a lovely car and beautiful to drive,just not quite so economical...
