HELP!!! Wet passenger footwell Passat 3C 2006 Saloon

Hi guys!
Ok so here goes, we noticed a few weeks ago that the front passenger footwell was wet into the carpet. After it going into a local garage they assured us they believed it was the door card so that has all been sealed in place. We have since ripped the carpet up which is absolutely sodden and so is the insulation under it. It now appears that the water is coming from the front of the footwell. We have cleaned all of the plenum drains and have removed the battery to check the drains are clear underneath which they are. Now to the pollen filter! This has been sealed but now thinking we should be changing it?
If anyone can give us any pointers on what we could be missing or if it is necessary to change the filter/housing/seals??
