RNS 315 Voice Commands

Hello I have a 2015 Passat Estate (Exec Style) with a RNS 315 radio/sat nav. The Bluetooth function works fine in that I can hear and talk to callers. However, I cannot get the voice command function to work.
I ask my dealer and was told that it must be my phone, a Nokia Lumia 735, which worked fine with voice commands on my previous Alfa 159. I reluctantly accepted the compatibility answer, until... yesterday a text arrived and the RDS 315 asked if I wanted it to be read, which suggests to me that the integration between the phone and RDS 315 is more than the basic functionality.
Before I book some time off to visit my dealer, us anyone else using the voice commands for making calls etc?
