B5.5 wagon Rear hatch will not shut?

Dropped some bits off at the mother in laws.
Now the rear boot hatch wont shut.
Tried doing the catch by hand with boot open, but it won't latch shut.
Handle moves ok.
Anyone else had this? Know how to cure it?
Cursing now as its to dark to see. Extension lead don't reach the car.
And cannot see the little covers over the screws, to remove inner panel.
