A quick question about PD TDI Oil.

I'm sure this has been done to death, but a quick search hasn't provided the answers I need and am in a rush.

I've looked on the opie oils site, and am returning long life fully synth 5w30's.

I've rang GSF car parts, and they said until 2005 VW used 5w40 fully synth and suggested a car lube oil.

In a nutshell, if I use the more expensive 'long life' stuff, how much longer does it last?

If i use the cheaper stuff do I need to be careful it is PD specific?

I'd like to buy locally as I need to top up, but 5L of Comma pro life for £ 50.99 is the best I can find, besides the carlube but not sure I should use that.
