Well, not having a brilliant day today. The car had been losing a little water (very little) recently, and in the last couple of days I could hear a belt squeaking every now and again.
As I got to a busy set of traffic lights earlier there was a bit of a crunch, and a louder squeal. I pulled up as soon as I could away from the lights, at which point the engine stalled.
Looking under the bonnet water has sprayed all over the front of the engine, so I think the water pump exploded. With the engine stalling, and probably not turning over very well, what damage could this have done?
I am pretty gutted as I have done a fair bit to it recently, so I don't really want to throw it away, but any repairs over the cambelt/water pump combo will cost more than the car...
On a 238k B5, is it worth changing the whole engine?
Bang! The water pump failed today.
