I keep twisting my knob

My gear knob twists about 10 degrees or so when putting the car in gear. not the biggest problem in the world but a tad annoying. I've seen a few other member with this so obviously a common occurrence.

From a search i can see that the gaiter needs to be lifted up revealing the metal clip holding the gear knob on (but in some cases there is no clip? ).

Can just the gear knob be replaced or is the knob & gaiter all one part? id like something like a retro '8 ball' gearknob. When searching on ebay the gaiter and knob seem to be one part and not two individual.
