EGR removal/replace

Post by BertieBassett »

EGR on my AWX started to make the 'duck quack' sound. Bought new gaskets from TSP to remove and try to clean.

Couldn't get the bolts holding the pipe from the exhaust to the base of the EGR undone to access the 3rd bolt holding the EGR to inlet manifold so gave up. Since been told EGR needs replacing (stops 'quacking' if clamp the vacuum pipe to the top of EGR).

Is there a trick to undoing the bolts on the underside of the EGR, other than employing Hercules to do it? Bolts on the exhaust manifold end came off easily; would it be better to look at removing the EGR attached to the inlet manifold and dismantle from there?

Any advice/guidance greatly appreciated.

John
