Ignition clicking noise car won't start

My battery recently ran dead on my b5 estate whilst it was off the road for me to sort out the common flooded interior problem

now I've put it all back together and charged the battery with a charger..... Re connected the battery.... Try to turn on the car and all I get is a fast clicking noise from around the ignition area?? What's happening??
