Oil breathers

After sorting the coolant and oil leaks i now have oil burning thro the exhaust when reved hard not when at tickover . Its a 20v alt engine.
Im guessing i need to check the breather system . When i changed the cam cover gasket i noticed a build up of crud in the cover under the gasket .is there any items that are common to check first , the intake tube was a bit slimey with oil but not bathed in it .
