Alarm woes with my lovely new (to me) Passat

Hi, new member with a new (to me) passat. Just purchased a 2012 VW Passat 1.6 bluemotion and am loving it apart from an issue with the alarm.
Over the last five days the the alarm has gone off easily 6 or 7 times. Mainly late at night which is beginning to drive us and our neighbours bonkers!!
There's no warning alerts in the car that we can see and it's erratic. Last night it went off twice in an hour and then behaved itself.
Any ideas? I'm not very technical but would love to disable or disconnect the alarm.
