DSG compatibility pass at b6 2010

I currently have a passat b6 on a 10 plate, it has a dsg box. According to the log book it states the gearbox code is LTE.

Whenever someone ask me is it an auto, they always say with your current mileage its near its sell by date.

Now I do a lot of miles on my car and what I want to know is if my gearbox fails, will any other gearbox with different code fit? That's including the mechatronic. Will the software need upgrading on second hand gearbox.
