Noisy Fuel Pump(?) & Coolant Loss

Post by TazzyK »

Hi all,

Couple of issues with my brother's Passat (2.0 TDi BKP engine).

Firstly, when I started it from cold this morning, there was a slight buzzing noise coming from the rear of the car - this gradually went away over 10 - 15 seconds. I'm assuming this is a fuel pump fault? Does this need to be replaced or can it be serviced? If a replacement is required, is it DIY'able?

Secondly, there is some coolant loss as well. I can't see any obvious leaks, but over the space of a month, it loses enough to trigger the warning light. Any favourite spots to check before getting a pressure test done? I think the waterpump might be noisy (when revved with the engine open, there is a distinct noise from that sort of area, but I'm not sure what exactly it is, or indeed if it's normal).

Any idea appreciated.

TIA
