A few days ago a yellow 'P' with a yellow strike through it appear on my dashboard. After searching and reading it had something to do with the handbrake. I took the car to a specialist garage not far from where I work. They ran a diagnostic on the vehicle and found a number of faults.
00650 - Clutch Pedal Switch 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
02432 - Supply Voltage for Left Parking Brake Motor (V282) - 012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent
02430 - Left Parking Brake Motor V282) Resistance to Movement - 003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent
There is nothing on the diagnostics about rear brake pads & discs but I was told they're worn low.
I gave my car in the morning (08.30) and got it back at 5pm, I think they knew where I worked so took there time. Over the phone they advised the parking brake button needed changing + a software update. I was charged just over £600 to replace a caliper, handbrake button + software update. Does that seem right? For some reason, it's probably the amount of time they had the car I didn't feel right handing over my money.
Later in the, 2pm ish, they called again to say the brake pipe is twisted and couldn't get a genuine VW part from 2 sources. I told them I need the car to go NE tomorrow morning for work and to use A part to fix it but was told they only use genuine parts.
Now, I’ve had a couple of things changed/fixed on the car, old brake pipe is fitted but twisted (it was tested to 2 bar whatever that is) but really need the car for work over the weekend and the yellow P is still displayed on the dashboard. Why do I feel like I’m being taken for a mug??? I paid just over £600 to pick up the car with the same issue I gave it in with.
Also, do i take the car tomorrow morning for work or do i leave it at home? I did over hear the mechanic tell the receptionist it's drivable even thought I was advised it's dangerous.
Any help, advise would be appreciated.
Why doesn't this make sense?
