P2279 Leak in air intake and hissing sound

Just typical... I have my MOT on Tuesday and yesterday this fault appeared. Car went into limp for my Mrs and she wasn't happy.
There's a lack of power under acceleration and I can hear a hissing sound coming from around the dash area (under acceleration).
VCDS shows P2279 fault. I cleared it and took it for a quick drive. I'm hoping it will stay clear to get it through the MOT.
Is there anything I can check myself? If not I'll have to see if my mechanic can look at it tomorrow at short notice.
