Well took the glowplugs out, and... One of them is bent! I'm guessing if a glowplug is bent, then something pretty nasty has happened to seize the engine... Anyway, sadly my immaculate Passat is going to be broken! Will post an ad in the classifieds now, but this really pains me as it'd cost me more...

Cheers dirtyduncs, I'd not thought of that! Makes sense though... There's plenty of oil in it, it didn't lose a drop and I keep the oil topped up once every 1000 miles or so. Like you say, I've got nothing to lose! Just hope the injector stays put when I reattach it (if it even goes back in that is)...
