PAS pump fail?
Steering started howling yesterday and intermittently going heavy (b5.5 pd130) checked the PAS pump reservoir and it had enough fluid, but full of froth/bubbles, but then after driving a little further it was almost empty. Filled it this morning, but it empties after every drive and does not improve...

Re: Using red diesel
Diesel and red diesel is not the same. ... Any way definitely red is bad coz all red diesel machines cranes etc have different pump than exact same ones designed for public roads. I do servicing for crane hire company and 4 of they cranes had to be prepared to burn red diesel. We changed diesel pum...

Re: drive shaft fell off
they didn't; after jacking up the car and having a good look, one of the bolts had stripped the thread out the flange, two had sheared and the other 2 had fell out, despite the super duper industrial locktite I'd put them in with :???: my cousin ordered me some new bolts from VW at midday, and told ...

Re: Using red diesel
Think about it, bikes, lawnmowers, chainsaws all use 2 stroke to lubricate, in a measured amount it does reduce friction , wear and tear and helps combustion. i I'm not disagreeing, but these all have 2 stroke engines, they cannot physically run for long without the 2/ additive. the 2/ oil is not t...

Re: Using red diesel
red diesel, contrary to some opinion is exactly the same as road diesel, made in the same refinerys with exactly the same processes as forecourt diesel, then it has the red dye chemical marker added before going on sale. it will run in your engine as would any diesel off a forecourt because it is, i...

so I'd be driving around witht he offside balljoints grinding away, and every now and then I'd get a clunk frm the nearside, fairly irregularly, but usually when changing from 1st to second, but being skint, I figured I'd ignore it all until payday. a good plan, I thought until I pulled out onto the...

where to get lower balljoints from
after living with an abominably creaky steering wheel for a few months, I checked out the ridiculously complicated steering system to find the cause and it turns out one or both of the lower balljoints on the passenger side are a bit fecked. so that decided, where is the best place - quality vs pric...

just had to change the n/s cv boot for the 3rd time in a little over 12 months in the rain because the cheap pattern boots keep splitting, but when winding the hub bolt back in after completing the job in the rain, it was far far too tight, as in I had to use a lump of scaffold just to turn the bolt...

Re: Advice on which car to tow with....
I'd be inclined to go for a discovery, either a late D2 (TD5) or a D4 (2.6 TDv6), forget the D3 and the P38. The P38 are nowt but trouble and will be in the garage more than on the road, both P38s and Discos 3s are renowned for their unreliability.

Re: Anyone else a diesel convert?
the best I've averaged on a long run with my 'ssat (1.9tdi AFN same as OP's) is 67mpg. gonna keep this car 'til it dies, and then consider buying another. I'd be disappointed now if I didn't get at least 64mpg average on a long or motorway run. I have found a full tank of fuel brings your average do...

at 25 beans an hour, I'd imagine you'll be looking at two maybe three hours depending on how fast they work.
If I were you I'd hang on until I had the time to do it myself, they're not particularly difficult.

winter tyres, who wears them?
coming home from work earlier this week I was cut up by a lorry, who coming in the opposite direction swung across in front of me to take a turning to my left. I slammed on the anchors, ABS stepped in and the motor barely even slowed as I slipped past mere mm away from his iron girder of a rear bump...

Re: RE: Could i borrow some towing lights please?
When I did my towing test 2 years ago it was any trailer over 750kg or with brakes, if it was under 750kg without brakes I could tow it before the test. As I found out the hard way when I got pulled towing an empty car trailer which I thought I was allowed to tow as it was less than 750kg, but it h...

just been chatting to a mate who's been running wvo in his 1.9tdi octavia for five years. He first leaves it to stand for a few weeks, then strains and filters all the poo out, mixes it with a small % of white spirit (maybe not strictly legal - unless it counts as an additive? Is there a certain %ag...

it can the cost of svo really in't that much lower than diseasil tho, and I want to know if anyone else has blown up their 'ssat doing it before I try it.
