Re: Getting Bumpers and trim back to black - What works best

Check your local paint and body shop. In Australia we can buy plastic bumper paint spray. You need to buy the primer for it too as it's flexible and clings to plastic, and non plastic primer won't work. Check out this, gives you an idea what to do. (Yes, we are mental and sprayed the car in our driv...

Re: My 1979 B1

Thanks Fatyead! Oh I know, Matt, that unsealed section of the driveway is a real poo :( Sadly it will cost around $20k to get sealed. :0 But since Frank first arrived, we had a carport installed, so at least a large chunk of that area is now undercover. Makes life easier when it's 40 degrees and you...

Re: Own or owned any other VW's?

Lemme think... started off with a 250cc Suzuki bike Then a Mark 2 Ford Cortina V6 Then a Mazda Capella 1974 (I loved that car SO much) Then an E30 BMW 318is (love the styling but slow compared to the Capella) Then I could finally go nuts with my VAG love, which began the day I saw Herbie as a little...

Re: My 1979 B1

The bodywork was done by Dennis Robertson, an absolute magician with metal, who usually works on Ferraris and million dollar cars for rich people. Thankfully he's a mate! :- The back corner was pushed in about three inches by the previous owner. Now you would never ever be able to tell!

Re: My 1979 B1

Oh there's still work to be done. The engine's a little tired (1600) and needs a rebuild. When we do that we'll paint the engine bay. The car was born Diamond Silver Metallic. The car was painted in British Racing Green  by someone who I suspect had some sort of palsy or drinking problem beca...

Re: N00b from Australia

Thanks guys! Well hopefully a few more Australians join in; I am slowly tracking down the fellow B1 owners in Melbourne for starters :D Friend of mine has an Audi Fox that his family has owned since new. I've also made friends online with quite a few B1 owners in the States, I shall have to tell the...

Re: Passat B2 seats wanted!

I took some out of a B2 to put into a Mk 1 Golf. They fit after some bending; the legs were bent in to fit the B2 rails.

Re: 5 pot into a B1

There's a chap who did it, in Germany. However he had to cut the nose to fit the motor, because it's so long. I looked at doing it, as I had a B2 I was wrecking, but it would have meant cutting the nose up and that's not going to happen. The 5cyl engines are really long. :(

I saw this car on Ebay, so glad it went to a good home where it's getting some TLC! A red facelift like mine! :-*

I urgently need a boot lock, wiper motor, steering wheel and gear knob to finish restoration of my car. Can anyone help me please? Sam I have a couple early Passat boot locks, if you're interested :) What year is your car? I discovered the facelift lock is different to the early ones, after buying th...
