Might not be the daftest idea to squirt WD40 up the backs of them. Not that I've tried... It's too late for most of mine already!

How's the pollen filter (under black plastic cover up near the windscreen with the bonnet open) look? If it's clogged, airflow's severely restricted. Is the engine coming up to temperature on the gauge? Thermostat? (top and bottom hoses to/from radiator heating up at the same rate from cold will ind...

I like the wheels too... The tyre choice gives it shades of 70s tuned fords (in my head!) I'd get some big old spotlights on there and keep the theme going....

My mate built a mk2 rocco one like this (but less elegant!) Even with a car that much shorter, the position of the axle meant the weight down on the back of the car was mighty.... Evil thing to tow. Equally evil to lift to get onto the tow hitch.

They're not the "VWII" calipers are they? I've got a few of those... Other way to go is DIY refurb, with new seals from Bigredd (I've heard good things about them, but they didn't respond to my email a while back) http://www.pdgough.com/ or http://www.custom-chrome.co.uk/ Martyn had his do...

Re: Gear selector, its like stirring soup!!!
If the problem's coming and going, it could be a bush getting pulled out of it's housing by a worn/ridged rod. That'll be somewhere near the bottom of the gear lever itself, as it's cables to the 'box on these... By the same token, there could be an issue at the gearbox end. New cables might fix it,...

Braided hoses replace the flexi hoses - not the rigid lines. You'd use the master cylinder to suit the brakes... So if you're using G60 brakes, you'd use the cylinder that's on a G60. You'd also have to declare the modification to your insurers, who would increase your premium (as the car is modifie...

This may either be stating the obvious, or incredibly useful: Once the valve's removed, check it's free AND that water doesn't leak past the "holey ball" inside. Any leakage will need a new valve. When re-fitting, the action is adjusted by altering the point where the cable "outer&quo...

Is this a 2000 X reg, or an '81 with a conversion? If it's a coversion, it could be fun to diagnose online.... If it's a 2000, you're in the wrong section, it'll be either a B5 or 5.5 depending on build date.

For the rear reg. plate - if you smooth the tailgate, you'll loose the factory lights so:

Re: b4 smoothed front bumper
I reckon it'd look good. Would you be going for the smooth tailgate too, and illuminated bolts for the rear reg plate? Only thing I'd have to query is what to do with the front indicators. (Obviously with enough metalwork, you could adapt the recesses to fit indicators off something else (6n polo, B...

Re: b3 cost of runnin?
In practical terms, when I was looking to buy a B3 or B4, I confused.com'd loads of cars - the insurance was pretty similar in cost across the range. (never checked a VR6 though) regardless of petrol/diesel and engine size. B5s were a higher cost. (approx £50 to £80 a year more for me) All things ...

Using the "pics or it didn't happen" logic: front seats do indeed drop straight in: http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz311/fonzooorooo/100_1392.jpg they're from a 3 door, so the recline knobs are on the inside... as are the height levers. That leaves them tight against the centre console...

Need to know the width of the wheel too - not just the ET.
If you find yourself needing long bolts, I've got some you can have - just not sure how many! I'll have a look tomorrow in the light.
