Re: Alternator Help
Nice. Unfortunately, the most useful number is printed on a sticker on the side! A quick look on evilbay found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Jetta-1-6-D-TD-Alternator-UNIPART-/370538758507?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5645d4c16b#ht_1103wt_1139 BUT... I can't tell you i...

Re: Alternator Help
i'd guess that a pic of yours, (I think if they look the same, the mountings are the same) and letting us know how many amps it is would help sort you one out.

Re: closed boot sound issues
The OP was talking about sound quality issues from the 2x 12"s he has in the boot already... I was simply trying to help him solve his problem in the most elegant way I could, for a total cost of less than 20 quid (sheet of MDF) I also have no interest in competition systems - I simply want to ...

Re: B4 inner CV removal
Excellent. That's what I was hoping you'd say!
There are 3 possible tolerances on splined components, and 1 of those is an interference fit, so just wanted to check before I got it apart then got stuck!
Cheers,
John.

B4 inner CV removal
Is the Haynes correct, or lying, when it tells me I need a hydraulic press to remove the inner CVs from the driveshafts? The joints are still splined on, and are supplied with the usual cup-washer and a circlip (checked at friendly parts factor!) so I can't get why they should need pressing on/off. ...

Saloon i presume?? is there a rear drop down arm rest? port it like this http://www.nissanclub.com/registry/users/lowriderman3/mods/lg_PortRearSeat.jpg If you do this, the trick would be to design a proper 4th order bandpass enclosure that fits across the back face of the rear seats, then bring the...

Re: 2nd hand car rant !
I think there's a genuine trend toward this... There're a lot of factors involved, but I'd guess at technical ignorance being a big one - All most private sellers know about their car is how much it cost to get it through the last MOT. As cars get nominally more reliable and rust free, older cars lo...

Re: vr6 engine into mk1 golf cab???
The 'rocco guys reckon a VR6 is possible, but heavy, ends up mounted a long way forward, and doesn't do the handling any favours... They seem to prefer KRs or ABFs, either carbed (bike or twin40s) or on electronic management. Seems the trend in mk1 golfs is to go 20VT... presumably that works out li...

Those annoying little rattles
I got rid of 2 more today... 1: Discovered the knocking noise from the front was a loose hub nut(!) Popped the socket on, and it was less than finger-tight. 2: Found the stud which supports the front of the ECU has pulled the weld out of the body... So filed the hole out and popped a bolt through. N...

Re: Help me decide to keep my B3...
If the car does what you want/need of a car (which I'm guessing that it does, if you're having this debate at all!) and is rot free, needing only a bit of mechanical work, it's CERTAINLY a keeper. It's easy to think that for a "little bit more" you could get a newer, "better" car...

Re: closed boot sound issues
I've wondered about this before. If the boot is truely sealed when closed, and your subs are in sealed enclosures, once you fit ports (any shape, basic premise being that they're restrictive) you effectively turn the boot into a 4th order bandpass enclosure. By sheer luck, this might work beautifull...

Re: breaking b4 vr6 estate- now with pic
Does it have the full length interior trims which run vertically up each side of the tailgate screen? If so, I'd like a couple of the black plastic clips which hold them on top and bottom. (Let me know if that's unclear, and I'll point the camera at what I'm talking about!)
Cheers.

Re: DubDaves B4 Estate TDI
I've had a recent thread on here about heater control panels. Have a read. There's only 1 bulb, which mainly lights the temperature dial... the others are decidedly dim by comparison. If it starts to annoy me, I might retro-fit more bulbs/leds, using 1 for each control - that'd let me get rid of the...

Re: Driver's door hinges
I did them on my old mk3 polo... (same type of hinge) They knock out with a punch (with the door supported - sounds silly, but don't forget!!!) and then you'll be able to see if it's the pin or hinge that's worn. If it's the pin, nice easy job of popping a new one in. If it's the hinge, it'll need e...

Re: back door speakers don't work
Likely to be a connector as mentioned. If you're paranoid, or otherwise need to check everything: Whip the headunit out, and try a random speaker across the rear terminals of the ISO harness to check you've not got dead channels on your headunit. If it's fine there, then continuity check the wires (...

I'm wondering if the signal strength is down whilst "they" muck about with the Digital Switchover. ... Ours have all been developing a bit more hiss and crackle recently. Only practical idea I've got is to unscrew the aerial and pop it back - threads could be oxidised - particularly if wat...

Re: B4 wiper parking query
Its the wiper motor position"wheel" which parks the wipers in the right place. If they rise, after switch-off, there is still current-flow, caused by dirty mechanism/water inside the gearing-end of the motor. Take it off, making sure you keep the position the same & clean it up with n...

Weirdly, no... The wipers run to the CORRECT park position when in intermittant wipe, then when switched off, complete their cycle then start to go "up" to finally park 2" high.

B4 wiper parking query
Weird one this: Any ideas why the wipers should park 2" higher from "intermittant wipe" than with "nomal speed" wipe? If it always parked high, I'd know what to do, but with it only being from intermittant, I'm confused! At first, my mind went straight to the 99 relay, so I ...

Re: Heater control illumination query
Cheers for all that. Seems that the white reflector cover on the back is interchangable with 6n polo ... and on there it incorporates the bulb holder - so a quick, simple swap and I can see the controls. (Well... I can see the middle one... outer 2 are decidedly dim!) Luckily, I needed to adjust/lub...
