Re: widow wiring query
Only had a few minutes to investigate at the weekend, so had to plonk it back together till next time. His Mrs has a mk3 cab, so I'll have a look at that (when i get chance!) with the meter and hopefully get some answers!

Excuse another silly question, but does the steam clear after a few miles? Have you taken it on a longer run?

widow wiring query
Im looking at my mate's B4. Driver's leccy window has failed. I have permanent 12V at the switch (red/white) , 2x earths (both brown) +12V when I press "up" on green/red for the driver and +12V on the other wire when I press "up" for the passenger. Obviously the blue/grey is conv...

The Mayo on your oil filler is normal at this time of year on a short runs car.

I'd anticipate a dodgy thermostat is causing the slow warm up. I'd recommend a genuine one (about 30 quid) having had more trouble than you'd ever think using aftermarket ones - even gates! ... Once it's sorted, the gauge should get to 90 within a mile or 2 and sit steady there, perhaps climbing a d...

Re: differences between b3 and b4 estates
Its just lots of little things... Different engine options, obvious styling, subtle differences in the dash, interior is different but fully interchangeable. The boot is exactly the same . (carpet, side trim plastic and loaf cover are the same) ... Suspension is the same (some have bigger arbs) . Gl...

Re: Inherited a B1
I've seen the op has nearly got it running (from his posts on Retro Rides) ... Seems to have set the crank and cam timing, but not the intermediate shaft (hence the ignition timing's so far out) ... If it needs a little tweek or cranking round a lot, it'll still need freeing up. Its possible to get ...

Re: Door fun
There's a white plastic "3 sides of a square" effort that clips into the door and supports the outer handle. They like breaking/falling off when the handle is removed etc. When that goes, the front edge of the back (in front of the lock) comes away from the body when you pull the handle. T...

I've never knowingly seen a keep fit windowed b4... Every cl I've seen is leccy.
My b3 cl (1.8 spi) has keep fit though... And the doors are (nominally) the same, as is the glass...

Assuming the hinge bolts are tight, it'll need the hinge pins replacing .

I've fitted a few on different cars. All good. Had 1 case of one of their hub nuts loosening over time, but seems to have been an isolated incident.

Liberal dose of your chosen penetrating fluid, then tap first one side then the other with a mallet/lump of wood/NOT a hard hammer.... It should begin to wobble more and more then ultimately move. Don't be tempted to just whack it- you don't want to crack the dizzy casing!

This got me thinking, when was the last time you saw a B3 on the road being used? (Apart from your own!). I've owned my B3 for over a year now with daily use, and i've only seen one other, an old man in a tidy estate. :-q I guess they're a love/hate car really, mine still gets called the grandad bu...

There are a couple of guys on here with later cars with big installs, but most of us b3/4 lot are more of the up-to-and-including 1x 12" sort of systems. My ten penneth is to try and avoid aggravating the heater controls if you're moving stuff about on the dash... They're not exactly the most r...

Haha thanks!
Mine was a "see it, buy it" purchase on this forum.
There are (were?) New aftermarket ones on eBay for £130 ish from one of the firms that does the comedy body kits.
Votex mk3 golf ones come up every now and again - never looked at how far off fitting one of those would be.

Re: B1 & B2 trailer camper?
Mate of mine built a mk2 scirocco one a few years ago. (Chopped at a pillars) ... I borrowed it once.. Got to it to find the jockey wheel had slipped down. Took a LOT of creativity with no tools to get it high enough to hook onto the car - crazy heavy on the nose. It wasn't braked (!) So had a coupl...

Sort of... Depends which component. Spring rates are different. Top mounts are mk2 type on b3, mk3 type on b4... I've used r32 arm bushes...
