No one has any rights to distribute the software without Ross Tech's say so and I highly doubt this ebay seller has any such right. I may be slightly biased but go with eshrules, he sells you the cable, provides you nearly 24 hour support and will only point you in the direction of the Ross Tech web...

Gendan are usually top notch.
Am I right in thinking the B5 OBD is in the central console? Can you pull the connector out of it's 'home' to check the wiring behind it?

Without stating the blindingly obvious, you do have the ignition on (turned to acc), right?

Sometimes you're lucky and a new head is all it needs other times it's new valves, pistons and so on. Fingers crossed you're on...
