Re: This is weird..

I always do my tyres at those pressures. The majority of the time I'm driving under load, but even if my car is empty they're still at that pressure.

Re: This is weird..

Yep road conditions very much the same. Maybe I do drive more economically when it's loaded, but like I've said before, I drive like a grandad at the best of times.. I check the tyres every time I fill up, so weekly. All are fine, rears 45 PSI & fronts 36 PSI, as recommended in the filler cap.. ...

Yeah trip resets after 3 hours I think. I use the second trip setting to do the average between full ups.

Re: This is weird..

On a long run (50+ miles) the car will do 60MPG empty or fully loaded so I don't think anythings wrong. Getting it serviced next week so will get it checked for any codes but I can't see anything being at fault. Just baffled me a little bit.

It does feel better to drive when it's full, even with the ladder on the roof.. Just thought it was really strange given the extra weight & a less streamlined profile.

Don't think it's that as I'm a grandad at best of times. Plus the road is a single carriageway A road with no chance to overtake & you're stuck at speed of traffic. Which is usually 50mph..

This is weird..

Right, so at the moment my car is empty of tools & I'm just about managing 46MPG. But when I've got all tools (approx 60-70kg) and a ladder on the roof (approx 15-20kg) I get 51-52MPG. How is that even possible?! Journey to work is the same at the moment so I'm baffled. Car is a 1.9TDI Sport wag...

When this happened to my car, it was the alternator pulley. It runs the power steering pump as well so needed replacing.

Re: Service parts and best oil..?

Popped into Halfrauds this morning and it said on their list that all PD engines from 98 to 2005, so B5 & B5.5, is 5W30. And the recommended oil is Castrol Edge. After looking at the label on the Castrol Edge bottle it says that it's up to VW 507, and is recommended for VAG cars in general. But ...

Only difference I'm aware of is that 15mm lower.
As a post a little further up says, sport models have lower suspension with red shock absorbers, lower springs and solid anti roll bar. As well as the sport steering wheel & sport seats.

So is the general thinking that all Sports are modified Trendlines? Can anyone else with a Sport check their sticker in the spare wheel well?

Re: Service parts and best oil..?

I'd say only use one which matches the spec in the handbook... Ie don't try to second guess the specs and what they mean and how they compare. Then you can be sure the correct oil is in there... The later spec oils do not show the earlier specs on them and I reckon if they were deemed suitable they...

Re: Service parts and best oil..?

Right so I've just flicked through my hand book and it says: Vehicles with LongLife service need VW 506 01 oil. Vehicles without LongLife service need VW 505 01 oil. The service alert on my car comes on every 10k so is that long or short? Or should I just put long life oil in regardless? Cheers, Bob.

Re: Service parts and best oil..?

My previous post was inaccurate. I bought a litre of top up oil to keep in the boot compartment which is the same as the main oil I serviced with last time. Which was Castrol Edge, and as far as I can tell online it's right for the car. I've used the same oil since I've had the car, so driven 30k mi...

PD stands fo Pumpe Deuse, I believe It's a type of high pressure diesel injection, although the more modern MK5 uses a common rail but I'm not up on the diesels the best person is Desertstorm to ask Yeah I've just been reading up that although it's fully synthetic PD differs from other fully synths...

Re: So what is my car?

Its and AVF engine with a 6 speed box and sport suspension so I would say it's a sport. On my old SE where it says trend on yours it said comfo which I take it was short for comfort. so had higher softer suspension and less sporty seats. There are several option decoders where you can put the 3 dig...
