mine did the same thing - glow plug light on, but not flashing - after I'd repositioned the brake light switch on the pedal as the brake lights weren't coming on when the pedal was depressed. It came on every 5 or 10 minutes whilst cruising down the motorway - a light tap on the brake pedal and it'd...

If you type in Passat pinch bolt into Google and then select the first coupla results, there's some good solutions to the typical pinch bolt problem that may help you fix it yourself. The best suggestion seems to be to lube up with plenty of WD40 regularly a couple of days before (or penetrating oil...

personally I prefer the look of the B5 to the B5.5, but other than that I reckon its good to see someone taking the project on - hope it turns out well.
Can also appreciate that 5.5's aren't in everyone's budget, so get some pics up so we can all see it! :D

some interesting points all in - perhaps worth adding to a 'how to' technical section for fitting cruise control - as its likely many people wouldn't think of this. It won't stop me from adding it to my car but instead I'll get it checked out by a VW garage and declare it next time I insure, whether...

an MP ain't gonna help either. Fact is oil price per barrell is currently very expensive which means fuel is silly expensive too - the cost gets passed on - no-one wants to or will take a cut to absorb the price - simple supply n demand shows that boycotting one or two retailers doesn't impact on th...

so if you bought a second hand car that's already had cruise control retro-fitted - how would you know it wasn't standard when you take out your insurance?

anyone got any advice for removing the pinch bolts? (short of buying that tool above!) I'm considering buying a set of coilovers after pay day and was going to do the fit myself, but the pinch bolts seem to be a real pain to undo and even more so if they snap! Don't wanna incapacitate my car if they...

yeah - i don't mind putting something together. though obviously if there are other people on here with the skills then all the better - don't wanna hog it all. what do people reckon then for the cars - car of the month of the last 12 months (once there's enough submissions) or car of the month plus...

I think the 'best shots' idea is a good one - the pics can easily be photoshopped provided they're of a suitable size and resolution. Certainly easier than organising 12 or so individual shoots.

how long does a standard setup take to boot-up? any pros n cons anyone can give me of having an in-car PC? only thing that puts me off that is it's only 2Gb - I'd want a large storage capacity to transfer my mp3's to - though it says its got 3 usb ports so I suppose it could hook up to a second drive.

In-car PC's

Just wondered if anyone with an in-car PC can tell me how they compare to a standard stereo setup/sat nav... what I mean is, do they take a while to start up when you get in the car (ie to launch the software etc.) and how easy are they to install? I'm quite keen on the idea of having one in my car ...

get the car back and jam the grommet up with some silicone sealant. well that's what I'd do - after all its only to keep the water out - it's not worth £400 IMO.
where does the harness go through the bulkhead - is it in the plenum area or below that?

my brake lights work fine, but my brake light switch was on its way out, so everytime I was driving down the motorway it'd illuminate the glowplug warning light every 5 or 6 minutes - a light tap on the brake pedal and it goes out. Its all linked in to the same circuit as the engine management etc.
