Re: Alternatives to Photobucket

Problem with using alternatives is that they could well collapse or do something similar to photobucket. The best option is to upload the photos to the website directly then they are there as long as the site is. There are ways around this at the moment. I have just quickly resurrected all the 11 pa...

Re: darkside developments remap

Hi if you are in the North then I would be taking the car to Rick at Unicorn Motor Developments in Stockport, only around 35 miles away from Barnsley. Darkside sell a lot of nice parts and they do specialise in diesels however I wouldn't take a car there to get it mapped. Most of the time you will j...

Re: fuel cooler pd130

Only the very early PD130's had a fuel cooler with a rad. The later ones have a fuel cooler but it's an aluminium pipe under the car. If you look under the drivers side you can see a black plastic cover with holes in it. remove the cover and you will see the cooler. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3B02034...

Re: A Little help with a few faults..

There are actually 2 switches in the brake light switch that's why there are 4 connections on it. The one switch works the brake light the other goes to the ECU to tell it you are braking and is also used by the ABS module. If you have cruise control on the car and brake it should disengage immediat...

Re: VCDS lite and alarm

It's quite possible that the alarm going off is related to the door module. They commonly fail because of dry joints on the PCB causing intermittent connections. Have had the carpet up to check the CCM in the passenger front footwell. This is where most people first discover that it's damp under the...

Thanks for reporting back. It was probably a fairly simple job for the garage once they read the fault codes as this quite often takes you to the source of the problem, but not always. You can read the fault codes yourself quite cheaply these days if you have an android phone you can get a £5 blueto...

Re: A/C Compressor to Condensor Hose Replacement

It isn't unsafe and it won't cause the car to break down just means you are likely to not get the best performance out of the system and it will need topping up again if there is a leak in the system. If the drier has absorbed moisture from the atmosphere then this could lead to ice forming in the s...

I think most 1/2 inch torque wrenches will work down to 40Nm or so. If you are tightening bolts to 150Nm or so I would want to be using a 1/2 inch wrench. Halfords torque wrenches get a good write up. Not sure who actually makes them. http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/spanners-wrenches/ha...

Re: A/C Compressor to Condensor Hose Replacement

Do you have new seals for the pipe ?. I wouldn't fit it without new seals as you may find it will leak. As for fitting a new drier if the system has been out of action for a while and exposed to the air the drier will potentially have absorbed a lot of moisture. If you want to do it right and do it ...

As Mitch says that one joint with the blue paint mark on looks like it's not clipped in fully. You shouldn't be able to see the edge of the seal. The seals are available at main dealers or TPS. http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/PA/year/2008/drive_standart/627/hg_ug/145...

Re: Black smoke

I presume it's a diesel. Black smoke is usually caused by excessive fuel or more usually too little air. Boost leaks are quite common and will result in black smoke when hoofing the car. They can usually be seen by looking for wet oil patches on the boost hoses / intercoolers and hose joints.

It's possible all the glow plugs are duff. I had 3 report faulty with less than 80K on the car, I suspect the rest wouldn't be far behind. This won't be your fault though as the engine is quite happy running with all 6 plugs duff. I would suspect some kind of electrical issue , there are 2 relays th...

First thing I thought was they had fitted a wrong size tyre. Then When I had read that you had gone back to them I discounted that as I would have at least thought they would check that. Fairly poor service I would have thought, getting it wrong in the first place and then not even bothering to make...

This was in a Seat Leon Cupra, apparently running 420bhp, but only FWD so his excuse was loads of wheel spin and no grip :) . He was starting to catch me a little by the time we got to the end but I reckon even on a quarter mile he wouldn't have caught me quick enough. http://vid85.photobucket.com/a...

Good job on getting the aerial out. Most people don't even know the aerial has an issue when it's duff as they listen on FM and the signal tends to be a lot stronger meaning you still get reasonable performance when the amp has failed. Best thing to do with Photos is get a photobucket account and ju...

Re: Moving remap ECU from one car to another...

If the 02 ECU hasn't had the immo disabled on it then it won't work in the 04 car. You can disable the immo by using VAG-TACHO or use VAG-TACHO to find the 4 digit code and code the new ECU into the car. You cannot delete the EGR with VCDS. You can make adjustments to the EGR to reduce the amount. T...

The AC drain is under the evaporator part of the AC system. Can't remember if you have to remove the glove box or not to get at it, I don't think you do. Just remove the plastic cover under the glovebox and pull the carpet back. You will see the black plastic drain tube going into the bulkhead. This...

Sorry I was half asleep this morning when I posted that. Reading Rays response I think he is correct. The AJM engine has the smaller VNT15. That is specified to run at 2.1 bar max which is absolute pressure so 1.1 bar boost which is 16 PSI. So boost spikes at 18 PSI would be normal. Here is a boost ...

Diesel turbos run a lot more boost than petrols. I would expect that to make something around 1.35-1.45 bar boost which is 20 to 21 psi.

They did a 240bhp quattro sport. Which is the same engine with a mild remap, it had no rear seats , spare wheel and lightweight seats. No cost option to remove the air con and it had the battery moved to the boot. Was about 75Kg lighter than a standard 225 and about 0.7s quicker to 60 . 5.7s compare...
