Re: CV BOOT/JOINT
I did manage to get the bolts off and put them back on the inboard end with a mole grip, not the best but it did work. I bought some spline drive bits the next weekend and retightened the bolts with the proper tool. I bought mine from the local motor factors about £8 for a set of 10 with a 1/2 inch...

Re: Key Fob Battery Questions
Is the key on a 1999 Passat different to that on a 2002 model? . A normal 2 or 3 button flip key uses 1 CR2032 battery.

Re: CV BOOT/JOINT
I have changed the CV joint boots on my 2002 130 TDI estate and found the following link. http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/cvjoints/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The problems I found were that the bolts that secure the driveshaft to the gearbox are spline drive...

Re: 312mm Disc's
You can get away without changing the spare. If it's a front puncture put the spare on the rear and then take the rear tyre and put it on the front.Takes a bit longer to do but you can get away with it. I am looking to upgrade the brakes on my car to 312mm and I have a spare 15 inch wheel. Tried a f...

Re: Dodgy temp readings!
The temperature sender has 4 pins because it actually has 2 temperature sensors built in. The one is for the ECU and is the temperature shown on VAG-COM, the other is for the temperature gauge. So it is possible for the ECU to be reading the correct temperature and the gauge to be showing incorrectl...

Re: Front Grill B5.5 Vents???
On some cars they are cut out. I have a 130BHP TDI and they weren't so I got busy with a stanley knife and cut them out. Not sure it makes much difference but it all helps. If you look at pictures of engine bays on Autotrader you can see some are cut out. http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/imgser-uk/se...

Re: Rattle from exhaust?
Possibly the catalyst has cracked as they can be prone to shock or it's a baffle in the middle box. The Passat doesn't have lot's of ground clearance even in standard form so not really the best car for off roading.

Re: Dodgy temp readings!
It's the temperature sender that faulty, Very common and not to difficult to change. The part was redesigned as there have been so many failures and the new ones have a green top rather than a black top. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TEMP-SENDER-4-PIN-GREEN-GENUINE-VW-PART-GOLF-BEETLE-ETC_W0QQitemZ300194845...

Re: Wet carpets in rear passenger footwell??
I suffered a similar problem on my car when the sunroof drain blocked in the rear. You have to remove the rear wheel and the plastic wheel arch liner. The drains are the same as in the front with a flattened part to them and this is where they block. I put a small screwdriver up the one and got half ...

You really need to check for damp under the passenger side footwell carpet. It's easy to get up. Push the passenger seat back as far as it will go.You need to remove the kick panel in the passenger footwell first, Thats the panel to the left in the footwell , secured by 1 phillips screw. pop out the...

A lot of cars maintain fault codes for a certain number of ignition cycles, usually around 25. This is not the case for anything safety related such as airbags or brakes and these usually need to be cleared with VAG-COM. As to any change in the driveability or MPG I would say the car drives better, ...

The only way the ECU will know how much exhaust gas it is recycling will be by the reduction of fresh air coming into the engine through the MAF. I have had my EGR disabled for over 18 months and never had a problem. I have VAG COM and there are no codes being recorded in the ECU. EGR only really ha...

If you think about what the cheap, go faster resistor mod does on a diesel, it tells the ECU that the diesel is very cold. It does this by putting a low value resister in place of the diesel temperature sensor. This fools the ECU into increasing the injector duration and putting more diesel in. So in...

There are two events there that I would look at 16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low People have loads of problems with the MAF sensor and typically it;s output does drop, This results in a loss of power. 16955 - Brake Switch (F): Implausible Signal I know that you can get problems wit...
