Some B4's had Climatronic as opposed to normal aircon or basic heaters, the B4 tdi I had / killed & broke to use the engine in my t4 had climatronic, I kept lots of the car (gave most away on here) and still have the climatronic wiring / control unit & servos etc. But had damaged the heater ...

Also worth a try is a resistance test in the batteries live (to starter) & earth leads, these can go 'high resistance' causing slow starting X( Also it's possible you have issues with the ignition switch but that's easily unplugged to test... I've fitted new / secondhand battery leads on mine 2 ...

Another minor win, went a-rummaging at a mates yard, there's the remains of a B4 tdi salooooooon that I'm having bits off (f&r suspension beams / hubs & rack) and the bare dashboard was still inside, also was the aircon heater stuff & wiring so an hour or so later that was removed ready ...

Also, B3's back on the et15 (7x15") Mim 1900 alloys, mk2 golf has the bmw bbs ra?? et23 (7x15) so a minor change around

Not to be outdone the t4 has et15 (8x16") Stilauto 'Speedstar' 5 spokes & dubious legality with them being under the wheelarches

That sucks! How would the ignition switch cause this though? Shorting the terminals in the wrong order? VW ignition switches of this era were regularly going doomed, common to not have aux power & radios working also having to 'fiddle' when turning the key #-o Shame is I have a mk3 ign lock ass...

Okey, progress report (or lack of!) Driven it onto the drive & emptied the interior (seats / carpets & soundproofing rubber foam rubbish) About a litre of wet in each footwell plus what the soundproofing had absorbed :shock: Also found the main scource of said h20..... The common B3 bulkhead...

Look at mk2 golf or maybe mk3 golf pumps, think I've a mk3 or B4 Passat pump in the shed somewhere but can't guarantee it'll fit

Is it white smoke or steam? Does it smell of fuel?
Chances are it could be the temp sender, a common issue since the system was designed (Vw have been known to under-spec. on electrical components)

Also, never hurts to change air & fuel filters

& they are ce2, can fit the mk3's Immob 'reader-coil' on the B3's ignition lock but you would need a new key cut to accept the mk3's Immob chip (or the mk3's steering lock assay will fit the B3's column)

Should do, Vw fitted a 16v so you shouldn't have a problem....

Might be worth using a B4 tdi front subframe as it has a 'hydraulic' engine mount as opposed to the B3's floppy rubber one, also there are different height coolant rads & their lower mount frames. (B4 tdi again )

Its just lots of little things... Different engine options, obvious styling, subtle differences in the dash, interior is different but fully interchangeable. The boot is exactly the same . (carpet, side trim plastic and loaf cover are the same) ... Suspension is the same (some have bigger arbs) . G...
