saloon tdi pd 115, 179k on the clock, recent service, all good

......we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.....hit it.

Vac pipework? Are those all the little hoses in and around the air filter / turbo side of the engine? Also, is there much to be said for removing /blanking off EGR valve??

yessir! Having had a string of performance petrol cars, I am a diesel convert. I think I will always have a diesel now, even if it is a clapped out work horse, cant complain about the mpg and everything else! I do love a 200sx and vowed to have one again so maybe as a weekender

I did not know the cold weather affected the mpg that severely! I would have thought the cold air allowed the engine to run more efficiently!? Interesting....I must research this.

I have a b5 1.9 tdi 115 passat saloon nearly 180k miles. I did a 70 mile round trip on the m5 yesterday and returned 53mpg. no heavy pedalling, just cruised at around 70, is this normal? Should I see more? I'm pretty happy with it but seen some people returning 60+ mpg...

Yea, I changed oil at weekend. It appears to be the oil cooler from doing a search here. So, do I need to replace the oil cooler? Is there a seal or something that's gone?

Coolant is a light brown in colour, looks like its never been changed in 178k miles to be honest.

Looked under the oil cap and seen some light light brown flecks, small in the grand scheme of things but they're there..Head gasket gone/going?
