Yeah, no noise, just thought it had slipped out of gear, but then wouldn’t go back into any.
It’s ok though, love these Passats, but it doesn’t owe me anything. Will pick up another or similar and put this on eBay for someone who has a flatbed/trailor
Car is at BN6, Albourne.

Re: Lost all drive and gears
Sorry for slow update. This evening is the first opportunity I have had to get over to the car. Just had a look underneath and it is not the driveshafts unfortunately. I don't think it is the balljoint either as the gearstick feels normal and moves the selector rod. I guess it's something within the...

Re: Lost all drive and gears
Thanks both. On recovery van now. Wasn't prepared to look while on hard shoulder. Will drop undertray when I am delivered home and will hope a driveshaft has gone. If they are looking ok, then it is ebay for parts I guess. Oh well.

Re: Lost all drive and gears
Thanks ray112. Figured clutch or gearbox which will be too expensive to be worth it.
Driveshaft would be ideal though as well within my skill level (unlike clutch or gearbox). Wouldn't you still have drive from the other one though?

Lost all drive and gears
Currently waiting for recovery on M25. 3 hours and counting so far..... :???: Anyway, whilst I suspect that this 175k 1.9 tdi may be for the scrapyard, I was wondering(hoping?) if it could be something more simple. Driving along and suddenly realised I was coasting. Couldn't select any gears. Engine...

Re: Replacement alternator loose on bracket
Thanks, perfect info. That is reassuring to know. Back off to ECP then to see if they will give me the discount they offered before on the one I turned down. Oops! (btw, the fan undid easily from reverse so no need for me to snap a vane - I was prepared to do that though) If I do go for the TPS one ...

Replacement alternator loose on bracket
Couldn't find anyone else with this same problem on internet which is unusual - perhaps I am uniquely stupid this time. I had the 'alternator workshop' so took old alternator out and took it to ECP and TPS, but the 'matching' units that they sell have slightly different width brackets - ie the 'arms...

Re: Blacksmoke remap question.
I have one and it was fine. I was after more mpg and didn't get that but certainly no worse. What it does have though is a lot smoother powerband - it really does drive more like a petrol now. I am very happy with it. You have the opportunity to save the current map iirc. I also had one with a egr d...

Re: Door Lock Mech Help
I just replaced my rear pax door lock and the one I took out was black and the one I put in was green. Not sure if it makes any difference? Certainly, it works and was about 23 quid on ebay iirc.

Will take a punt on not changing the tensioner. Cam belt due in 12k, so might take a look at it then.
Been fine since I changed alternator pulley btw.

Re: Alternator pulley?
I hadn't even considered that. I have a feeling that I may run into the same problem with a replacement as there is something weird going on with the logic of the daylight sensor etc.

Re: Alternator pulley?
Well, it turned out it was the alternator pulley. Think it was just at the end of it's life. The freewheel clutch still seemed to work as it should, but it was pretty stiff to turn as I guess the grease had run out. It may well be that the rip in the belt was not related to the pulley. The bloody an...

Alternator pulley?
1.9 TDI AVF btw. On way to work this morning I had the 'Alternator Workshop' warning with Battery indicator. It lasted about 3 minutes and then was fine on way back from work(About 50 miles). The car is parked up now till I get this fixed. Doing a bit or reading, I had come to the conclusion, that i...

Well worth it. I was hoping to improve mpg. It didn't do that but certainly didn't make it any worse. It also drives more like a petrol now. The big difference is a lot smoother power band. I did also buy the egr delete map but haven't yet got around to deleting the egr. Thought it may work as an e...

Re: Autolock feature roulette
With your guys help, I think I have figured it out. It is the boot microswitch that is faulty and the pax door must have been at one stage in the past and fixed itself. All puddle lights work as they should so I can eliminate that although once I did open the pax door to put bags in and threw keys o...

Autolock feature roulette
The other post regarding having keys being locked in car makes me realise that my auto-relock feature is not working as it should. Reading the other thread, it is said that opening any door should disable the auto-relock. This is not the case with mine, the only time it won't relock is if the keys i...

Avf sport estate. Consistently 50mpg (55mpg on gauge). Blacksmoke remap so drives like a petrol too. Happy with that.

Re: Just bought a b5.5 passat tdi 130 estate! Poor mpg.
First easy check is thermostat. Channel 45 on climatronic. Should read 90degrees after car is warned up. After that check/ replace vacuum tubes. Also check timing via vagcom - but you can do the first two whilst you are waiting for the lead to turn up from ebay.

What Phil said. I thought it was standard practise to fill fuel filter with injector cleaner when changing it?
Have been doing this on my petrol and diesels for yonks.
