Re: Boost leak!
That's where mine split too, although it feels like a much bigger split! I'll put pics up once I replace it.

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
Argh, I'm going round in circles now! I've put my sensible head on and decided I should use some of the 3k budget to pay for other things related to the car, insurance, etc. Just so I can have an easier time later in the year and not cripple myself by spending all I can on the car. Now I am once aga...

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
Thanks Richard, but the other SEL I'm thinking of is near Exeter so not that much closer to yours! That one doesn't have any faults in any case, and I have VCDS on my laptop to bring along too. On second thoughts, the fact that the dealer states "The computer's wrong, it's got no faults, honest...

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
I was seen that advert as a couple of things to look out for on the car, but you are right it says more about the dealer than the car, I think I'll stay away from that one. I found another nice car, is 250 miles too far to go?

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
Seems there's quite a bit of choice out there, but with decent competition from other brands too... I've seen a couple of SEL TDIs which I'll be visiting though.

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
It does look good but the budget is firm unfortunately, also I'm looking for an estate.
To be honest I can't see myself modding this one much, I spend most of my time tinkering with the bike these days...

Re: What's "the" B6 to have?
Not necessarily a derv actually, I know the PD engines are good but if a petrol one is worth it, with my mileage, I'd consider it. You say any 2.0 tdi, in the B5.5 there is a 1.9 100hp and a 1.9 130hp option (both PD aren't they?), I think there is a 105 in the B6, not sure on others. What's the one...

What's "the" B6 to have?
Hey all, Time has come to sell the B5 and I am looking at B6s as possible replacement. I have never kept up with the various models in the range though, so I don't know which is the desirable one. If it was a B5.5 I know the AWX engine is the one to go for, etc. I have a budget of £2.5k-£3k, I'd l...

Re: Boost leak!
Thanks guys, I'll check that pipe. Yes it's very difficult to hear when stationary, the engine is loud enough without revving it!

Boost leak!
Hi all, My car has developed a huge boost leak. it's a 2000 ATJ, 251k, fairly standard. I can hear the air leaking out under acceleration. The car still goes OK, by that I mean it's not as bad as the N75 issue that causes no boost at all (been there!). I have checked all the pipes but I cannot see a...

215/55r17 tyres, 7x17 ET10 wheels. Sitting on adjustable coilovers. Fender-hub should be something like 36-37cm. https://www.dropbox.com/s/orwdrszo2t35ve5/Photo%2014-03-15%2009%2045%2013.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/og0rqu3id16rxq1/Photo%2014-03-15%2009%2045%2024.jpg?dl=0 Looks like it's not ...

Good to know, do you have any pics of what it looked like?aks1989 wrote:I just had to remove a set of 225/65/16's as they were rubbing the suspension around "hard" corners or over bumpy ground, runs fine in a straight line though.
not sure about the 215's though :S

Re: Big tyres on a B5?
I'd love an Allroad on paper to be honest, but the step in price would be too much at the moment, and I heard they can be money pits if they develop suspension issues, so I'll settle for a B5 that looks like an Allroad.

Re: Big tyres on a B5?
Yeah post a pic up, it's always good to have the inspiration!
Although I guess I'm looking for something approaching the off-road look, Audi Allroad, V70XC, etc. I'd get the matt black bumper trims, roof rack, etc.

Re: Big tyres on a B5?
FK springs 55/40mm drop, sports dampers. So very little drop compared to some of the guys here. The roads are really bad round my way though and I often find myself on small back lanes also.

Big tyres on a B5?
Hey all, not been here in a while! I'm getting tired of the car scraping everywhere, going around potholes and taking speed bumps at crawling pace. I'm not even low by the standards on here! So I'm toying with the idea of going the opposite way and going for the Alltrack look. On top of this, the pa...

Re: Bonnet latch not latching!
Well I've had a good look at the weekend, pulled it all apart, and I can't see anything wrong. The cable part from the handle to the joint is fine, the joint goes all the way in its housing so there is no snag there. The other part of cable is free to move. All I can think of is that the metal gaite...

Re: Bonnet latch not latching!
Thanks, I have checked the rubbers also and they are allowing the bonnet to close fully. The issue is with the latch itself, it started a while back, it could hold the bonnet but it would pop randomly, not it can't hold it any more as the cable has got tighter. Or it looks like it got tighter anyway...

Bonnet latch not latching!
Guys, I have an issue with my bonnet latch, it is not keeping the bonnet closed. I have checked the latch itself and it would appear the cable is too tight, as the lever in the latch is partly depressed all the time. Where can I look for the cable being too tight? I've looked along the cable, and th...

Re: Bang! The water pump failed today.
Now fixed and back on the road with a fresh MOT! I'm quite happy to have my car back, I had thought of selling it but within 20 minutes of driving it this morning I banished these thoughts from my head. Now I just need to fix a couple of small niggles and give it a good wash, then it will be all goo...

Re: Bang! The water pump failed today.
The Focus is pretty good actually, it handles a lot better than the Passat (being smaller and not having knackered suspension), and it drives well enough, but I miss the diesel's power delivery, the way it allows for a lazy driving style... I really have to work the gears if i want to make progress ...
