Re: B5.5 boot lock not working and leak
yep is a common one this. Keep your eyes peeled for when your rear washer doesn't work because I've had leaks from the main pipe popping off the pump and also where there is a 90deg elbow as the pipe turns up to the tailgate. Could be any one of them.

Re: steering angle sensor??
I've had intermittant faults spring up for the steering angle sensor, usually after going over a pot hole too hard or something. Always goes with a reset.
I looked into replacing the part and it does seem quite a big job, plus pricey part!

Chances are it'll gum up your MAF so you'll ned to fork out for a new one of those too.
Having said that, mine works well on my 1.8t (after the MAF issue was sorted)

Re: New front brakes binding
yeah I gave it a good scrub with the wire brush before fitting. I thought that may have been the problem and re-seated the disc tonight.
My wind in tool was bought for a renault, and the nobs on the end plate fitted perfectly inside the piston to keep it true when pressing it back in.

Re: New front brakes binding
stripped it down again tonight, re lubed the carriers and re-assembled. All seems ok, if not a bit 'tight'. There's a particular spot when you rotate the wheel which contacts the pad, but I suppose this will go as the pads bed in.
The noise has been much less today, only heard it a couple of times.

Re: New front brakes binding
yes no binding at all before the swap. The pads fitted well, no persuasion needed or any need to clearance anything to make it fit. I wound the calipers back too, to give the necessary space to fit the new pads. They work absolutely fine, no pulling to either side, just a bit tight if you get me. A ...

New front brakes binding
Hi all, just fitted new front discs and pads to my 1.8t wagon, but they're clearly binding and squealing at low speeds, not to mention getting bloody hot. The pads have a red 'bed in' coating (they're EBC heavy duty pads btw) could this be the reason? There's oh fiddlesticks! all to get wrong when f...

Re: 2002 1.8T air filter
I disagree, I have a K&N panel filter, and at £30 it's a load cheaper long term than disposable filters.
Sounds nice too. Check it's not over oiled when installing though cos it'll knacker your maf sensor.

Re: Sludge strikes my 1.8t
Ok, resolved now. All is well except my bank balancce.
The last prob was a simple wiring issue on the switch.
The old pick up tube was proper bunged up.

Re: Sludge strikes my 1.8t
Update on this, the car is still not fixed. The mechanic fitted a mech oil press gauge which read 20psi at idle cold when it went in. Swapped the oil pick up, pump and pressure switch and the gauge reads 60psi at idle cold. He stripped off the gauge for a road test but the light on the dash came on ...

I've been pretty religious on 5k oil changes for the past 30k miles, using genuine large VAG oil filters as well. Gonna have a good old flush out tomorrow and see what comes out of the sump. I think I may have caught this at an early stage so nothing terminal has happened and hopefully a good cleano...
