Re: Buying a B6
What do you guys think about this PD140? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-PASSAT-1-9-TDI-140BHP-SPORT-6-SPEED-/161464415861?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2598077675 Yes, it'll be a 2.0 BKP engine, not a 1.9 as per the headline. Recent cambelt change is a plus, personally I'm not a fan of towba...

Re: rear windows 30amp fuse ?
Below is a picture of my right hand fuse panel taken when I bought my 2005 B6 several months ago. The rear window fuse is in position SC32 and should be 30A (unlike the 25A in the photo, which had melted!).
I believe the same fuse position is used in later B6s too, also 30A.

Standard headlights on the B6 are really poor. Agree that upgrading to Night Breakers helps.

I picked up the parts today.
Part numbers spot on, thanks. Cost £10.26 inc vat each. Also picked up 6 x fasteners WHT005227 for 36p each.

Re: Under tray
The tray is held on by T20 screws around the sides and front, and 3 larger T45 bolts at the rear. It's flexible plastic so you can probably undo one rear bolt and a few screws along one side to get enough access. I would recommend jacking the car and supporting on axle stands though...

Front brake splashguards corroded - easy fix?
My front right brake is squealing slightly so I plan to remove the pads next week and apply some copper grease to the back. I've also noticed that the metal plates behind both front discs are nearly corroded through, so I'll change these at the same time. I think these are called splashguards, any i...

Re: Fitting new stereo today
My main issue is where to place the external mic. Cable is massively long. It should go in the trim panel built into the interior light, which has a dedicated microphone slot with a foam dummy piece in it. You can see how to remove the interior light panel on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Gear driven oil pump smashed up!
Not ALL B6's suffer jaismog. The chain driven you are very very likely for it to happen. The gear driven it's just a matter of "If" I appreciate that not all B6s suffer, but mine is chain driven and from buying it at 100k I was hoping to get 18k a year out of it for 3 years. Although I ha...

Re: Tire Pressure
My fuel flap sticker says 2.6 bar all round = 37.7 psi, so 38 should be fine. It's the highest pressure I've had on a car, my old Mondeo used to be 32 psi.

Re: Gear driven oil pump smashed up!
Still in the process of doing mine which is chain driven. That was a really useful post, thanks. So it's impossible to check the state of the balance shaft keyway until you've removed the whole balance shaft assembly? I bought my B6 @ 100k and although I have stacks of receipts / service history et...

Re: Gear driven oil pump smashed up!
£225 shaft (KMB) £17.50 lock tool (KMB) £20 for sump gasket seal £30-50 for oil and filter. a realistical price of £300 parts only (you may want to check your tensioner and chain if its fitted to it,it would be a shame to do the rest and overlook this) That will cost you more anyway all prices...

Re: Gear driven oil pump smashed up!
B6, BKP, 111k miles My VIN is in the range 41xxx so I'm fairly clear that my BKP will suffer this problem at some stage. I'm sure if I removed the sump I would find that my oil pump is chain driven (it's not a Sport model). So the procedure sounds like: 1. Drain oil, remove sump 2. Lock crankshaft T...

Re: Phone charging/connecting socket?
I bought a hardwired micro usb 2A charger from Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H3GK4G4 It fits in the fuse panel behind the RHS of the dash. The +ve supply connects via a piggy back blade fuse connector, and I soldered the -ve lead to a washer which fits behind a 10mm dash mounting nut in the ...

Re: URGENT REGARDING 2.0 TDI INJECTORS
B6, 2005, BKP engine. I bought the car about 6 months ago, and checked with VW Customer Services via email about whether my car had received the injector recall. Their reply included: I have checked our Factory database and I can confirm that there are no outstanding Recalls or Customer Satisfaction...

Re: BKP - Replacement EGR woes
Thanks for the reassurance, so perhaps I should have kept the new EGR in for longer to allow the ECU to adapt. As you say, the issue was at low revs on initial acceleration (like hesitation, almost a 'misfire') but with the foot on the pedal the revs recovered and performance returned, which pretty ...

BKP - Replacement EGR woes
B6 Passat, 2005, PD140 BKP engine, 110000 miles. Although the engine seems to work fine, my VCDS EGR trace on revving from 800 to 3500 and back didn't look anything like the one on 1810Martin's site https://sites.google.com/site/1810martin/vcds-and-pd-tdi-engine-health-check . So I bought a new EGR ...
