Re: Reliability....

Yes, Ive removed checked & refitted all relevant fuses, even using contact cleaner on contact surfaces just for good measure, problem persists.

Re: Reliability....

Unfortunately not :( Fitted the new 219 relay today & no difference, still got the five original codes which when cleared come right back again. It looks as though I have two options here. Take it to the professionals to look at or get rid & buy something else. Shame as the car drives really...

Re: Reliability....

Yes, you were right about the MAP sensor. I put the original one back, cleared the code & had ten minutes of happy motoring before the check engine light came on & when scanned it came up with the five original codes. So looking more like the 219 relay which I shall replace as soon as I rece...

Re: Reliability....

Thanks Karl. I do still have the original MAP sensor which I will put back in & will fit the new relay when I receive it. As for cleaning the ground points, I would like to do that too but note that lots of people on different forums have the same problem, like, where are they? I would be oblige...

Re: Reliability....

Hi Karl. True, I only lifted the scuttle cover to check that there was no water in there & did not go into the ECU box itself as there was no evidence of water having got to the ECU. Many thanks for the link, very informative. I shall be checking it out today, will keep you posted.

Regards, Baz.

Re: Reliability....

Hi. Yes been in there before checking for any water damage but I did not notice any fuses/relays in there. so take it that the 219 relay is with the others i.e. driver's side (pull off side panel for fuses, drop panel by pedals for better access to relays)

Regards, Baz.

Re: Reliability....

Hi Karl. Many thanks for your reply, most appreciated. When you say "in the fuse box where the ECU is" are you talking about the fuse/relay box right hand side (drop the panel under the steering column) inside the car or is there a fuse/relay where the ECU is located i.e. by the ECU itself...

Re: Reliability....

Hi..Old new boy here. You don't seem to see those adverts anymore stating "If only everything was as reliable as a Volkswagen" I wonder if it is now the case that Volkswagen's vehicles are no longer as reliable as they used to be? My old (1996) Passat managed 300,000 miles (& still goi...
