Re: The famous Mr Muscle method - turbos, advice needed plea

Forgive the post to an old thread. I'll be Mr Muscle'ing tomorrow. I tried once at the end of last year, but wasn't sure I'd got the pipe through the egr hole and all the way into the turbo. Still, the problem was cured. Now, one week before the MOT it's come back - same code and EML on. I suspect t...

Re: Crunching from the window

Heh, too late. I deliberated for ages, but now the window has dropped a few mm I decided to just get one ordered. I discovered there is a third option - buy the entire inner skin with the regulator already riveted on for £30. So in the end I bought the cheap cable only kit, with the intention that ...

Re: Crunching from the window

Sorry, having watched more videos on the subject, it looks as though most people are using the kit without the runners - does this avoid having to drill the rivets out and re-rivet new runners in place? If so, I'll take that option..... That said I'm toying with the idea of adding silent coat and so...

Re: Crunching from the window

OK..... you have me worried now.
I have done a window regulator before, but on an old Renault. Just unclip unbolt and refit... it was child's play.

What else do I need to know?

Crunching from the window

Hi guys, Having finally Mr Muscle'd the turbo last weekend and finally getting the car out of limp mode, cleared plenum drains and emptied the pond, I was feeling quite pleased with my perfectly functioning Passat. Que this morning and when I tried to lower the window and collect a parking ticked fr...

Can I just pop a big thank you in here for this thread - I know it's an old un, but really helped me out today in unblocking the drains.

Re: B5.5 Aux in

No takers? Well I've tried an FM transmitter. The quality is better than I expected, although the 10 year old stock system probably isn't up to illuminating any shortcomings. The biggest PITA is having to remember to turn my MP£ player off and the transmitter every time I leave the car. So I still ...

B5.5 Aux in

Hi chaps, I've just collected a B5.5 to replace my written off B5.5 (Rip old buddy) New one is a highline with the usual 6cd and gamma in the dash. I'm perfectly happy with it, save for the lack of being able to connect my MP3 player. What's my best option for this? I've looked at FM transmitters, b...

I'm confused. Is it supposed to be used as a flush or are you just saying it's of such low quality that that is all it's good for?

Re: Snow foam

I wonder how many people make the same assumption: my pressure washer has a bottle for detergent therefore I can put snow foam in. A bit of googling suggests it might still work ok, but not to expect shaving foam thickness. I'm fine with that. Oh yeah, what's with the scents? Do they hang around aft...

Re: Snow foam

Hmm, I might have jumped the gun a bit here. My Pressure washer just has a detergent bottle on the end of it's "lance" (wish a lance for snow foam was called something else - so easy to mix up your lances and lances). I'm not sure now that it'll produce much/ any foam. We'll see. Worst cas...

Snow foam

I just wondered what people's thoughts are on snow foam. Is anyone here using it to clean their passat? I found an unopened pressure washer in mum's shed and gave it a new home. It's got a bottle for foam, so I've ordered a bottle to give it a try. Seems to be all sorts of opinions on snow foam but ...

Re: Servicing at home

Do we have any top tips for the pela/ oil extractors in general? Mine seemed to take an age to draw the oil out and just servicing another car now where it's taking an eternity. I've run the engine for 5 mins as per the instructions, but perhaps its better if the oil is hotter. Sent from my HTC One_...

Boot stuck closed

The boot on my B5.5 estate stuck shut this morning. Tried it with the key in the lock tonight and I did manage to get in . I presume the solenoid is at fault because it sounds like this: Jibawakkka richiyajabawak richttt tick tick .............click and we're in! It sounds like a squirrel in the ele...

Ignition OFF. Press trip reset button and hold in. Switch ignition on. Still holding trip button in turn clock adjustment button to the right. Should clear it. Thanks for this. Re: Servicing at home

Thanks - I'll give that a go. Reminds me of a story from when I left school and worked in a garage for a summer. We looked after an ancient astra for a lady that was on a shoestring budget. She called one day to say that her friend had told her it was fairly easy to service her car and she could sav...
